hopefully the GOTY 2011 will not be a sequel or a game that we have played as beta for a long time already. Hopefully there will be more games like LA Noire, doing something different.. doing something that hasnt been thought of yet...

Any sequel can be good, but the devs are tied up with fulfilling our expectations to the franchises stopping us from seeing any out of the ordinary innovation from these already established franchises.

Although its a 2009 game, Demons Souls didnt get released here in Europe before june(?) last year so that was the game of 2010 that impressed me the most. Im looking forward to Dark Souls... but im guessing its just going to be more of the same.

While I certainly agree with you, I feel the need to point out: you rag on three sequels simply for being sequels, yet gush over Elder Scrolls 5... Little hypocritical, dont'cha think?

...I'm just sayin'.

Portal 2, Skyrim, Batman: Arkham City or Brink.
-Portal 2 for the story, humour and interesting mechanics.
-Skyrim for, well, do I have to explain myself?
-Batman: AC for having such detailed and polished environments and managing to make another good game based on a comic book.
-Brink because of the new and interesting take on MP FPS gaming. Also parkour. Jumpy jumpy.

I guess it will be either LA Noire, Mass Effect 3, Skyrim or Witcher 2, although it is impossible to say because we havent had a chance to play the games yet

Portal 2. Mass Effect 3 would give it a run for its money, but I'm kind of expecting ME3 to be delayed until 2012. I'm guessing that's what it'll take to get the game completely polished, so such a delay would be fine by me.

Currently I think Portal 2 is the strongest contender followed by Mass Effect 3.
Although Dead Space 2 will always have a special place in my heart.

I haven't played any of these, and with the exception of Portal 2 and maybe Minecraft, have no intention to. I think the best 2011 game I've played so far was Monster Tale of the DS. The ending was a bit anti-climactic but it was a really fun game.

LA Noire, Skyrim or Battlefield 3.

Come on, Dragon Age 2? Lowest rated Bioware game in a long time (if not ever) by far, and a rushed out cash in if there ever was one. Do yourself the favour of not propagating the business practice that Bioware undertook with the game.
Only the lowest rated game by users on Metacritic. But that doesn't count because it was a bunch of stuck up misfits that don't know how to give a proper review and score. Zeros aren't for games that only have minor problems.

It is a situation that if people I knew or even didn't know were asking my thoughts on the matter and were going to base their decision off of what I have to say, then I would tell them to ignore the irrational foaming at the mouth minority, and believe the majority of the professional reviewers that know how to review a game without getting all nostalgic and emotional because the game made minor changes(ones for the better) and will still score the game reasonably even if they didn't like some of the changes.

79 out of 100 professional review score > 4 out of 10 from people that don't know how reviewing and scoring works.

------------------------------------------------------

Out of the games on the list, I have only played Minecraft and Dragon Age 2. It is an easy decision to give the GOTY award to Dragon Age 2.

Minecraft just doesn't have what it takes yet to be a real-full game. Since it isn't complete, it shouldn't win any awards till it is fully out.

My decision could change once I play Portal 2. Their is a 99.99% chance that I will love Portal 2. Even though I haven't played it, it is another game were people should believe the professional reviewers and ignore the crazy users that don't know how to review and score a game.

Minecraft came out last year.
L.A. Noire is a sandbox game by Rockstar. And Rockstar is really really bad at sandbox games.
Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim: stands a chance. but after playing Fallout New Vegas I think Bethesta is on a down hill slope from here on out.
Couple of problems with this, Minecrafts official release date(when it's a full blown game and not stuck in beta) is the 11th of november this year.

If you think Rockstar make horrible sandbox games you've obviously never played San Andreas, Vice City, Red Dead Redemption or GTAIV, they've all got good points and bad point but the majority of people have at least one of Rockstars titles that they love.

Finally Fallout: New Vegas wasn't made by Bethesda, it was made by Obsidian and tbh I don't really think that made a difference because I still enjoyed it.

Portal 2 is extremely good and I spent a lot of time playing Minecraft, but later on something will probably top them.
Here are my predicted top 3 games of the year:
1. Skyrim
2. Portal 2
3. Minecraft

I love how half these people (and 3/7 of the poll options) are games that haven't even come out yet. For all you people know the games could be complete letdowns or trash (for example, FEAR 2, BioShock 2, New Vegas, Final Fantasy XIII, Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops, Homefront [I still find it a little enjoyable], and Left 4 Dead 2 just to name a few).

So far this year, I'd say Bulletstorm, but then again, I'm still looking forward to Brink, Rage, Duke Nukem Forever, Serious Sam 3, FEAR 3, and a few others, so not sure yet. Unlikely, but all of those could turn out to be trash and Bulletstorm might end up being my favorite game this year.

Where have you been? It isn't really that new. It is just like Quake Wars was in terms of game play, mixed with Mirror's Edge movement system. Not to say it's bad, just not new.

I voted Uncharted, as Uncharted 2 is one of my all time favorite games and having purchased every Naughty Dog release from Crash Bandicoot to Jak X within a year of the release date, I have faith in the quality of the game.

This list still confuses me as it contains both released titles and titles which have not come out yet, shouldn't it be one way or another, speculative or out of what we have received.

Everyone knows how wild speculation and hype can be at times.

Well yea, i didn't realy go through what i wrote xD

But to clarify: I didn't mean to bag on them for simply being sequel, that would be idiotic. I bag on them for being sequels which didn't improve noticeably on the base of their originals.
I can't see the big change from ME1 to 2. and then there is Dragon age 2 which improved a whole lot over DA:O but in ways that wasn't good. The more action heavy approach was great! i loved the new style but the problem then became the "more enemies is better" thing.

i just didn't feel like they were that great considering their predeccessers (i simply can't spell that word atm x_X i'm sorry)

Now enter Skyrim whom from what i can gather is improveing what needed to be improved. Like i said with the Radiant story tech.
I feel like Skyrim is improveing on everything that Oblivion did to make it a great sequel.
