Bioshock. You enter the room where the water is waist high. You feel very slow and feeble. You blasted the water with your Electrobolt right? Yeah there can't be anything wro....Click.....Lights out....Oh they are back on again that is better. Grab your tonic, search the body. Back through the water up the stairs RARRHH! crazy doctor in the cabinet coming to getcha! Also the begining where you climbed down into rapture was unsettling for the first time playing it.

Well, the first time I saw the original 'Friday the Thirteenth' kept me up for five days with a bad case of hyperventalation. Just as I was getting over it, my mother ambushed me in the bath-- that tacked on several months of therapy.

I always thought of Dead Space as being an atmospheric shooter rather than a survival-horror, but the one part where you have to run from Dr. Mercer's creature definitely gave me the willies. Oblivion was also a contender believe it or not. When I bought the shivering Isles expansion, I thoroughly enjoyed it until I had a particularly nasty run-in with a skinned hound wherein I turned off my night-vision inside a dungeon, and of course, what else should come out of a dark corner but the glowing red eyes of a skinned hound. Which promptly caused my stomach to be blown straight out of my mouth in a sickening lurch due to my horror.

Thief Deadly Shadow: The Shalebridge Cradle and, to a slightly lesser extent, the Abysmal Gale. Both those levels gave me the scares.

As for movies - I don't really seek out scary movies though someone mentioned Event Horizon. I thought was quite a scary/disturbing film, especially when they decoded the video recording from the other ship. That was quite unexpected.

Doom 3 made me jump a lot. Damn demons.
You get desensitized quickly, though, because they rely on the same tricks for most of the scares.

Arachnophobia freaked the shit out of me when I was a kid. Think for a few months after seeing it I was checking showers, and inside my shoes for spiders.

Silent Hill 1, and Fatal Frame II had me jump a few times.

Child's Play 2 scared me as a child so much that I wouldn't go into a Spencer's Gifts store untill I was 13.
