korn, disturbed and slipknot aren't metal

and I don't say this beacose I hate them, hell I quite like all of them (well more or less), but they just aren't metal.

out of that list? Heaven shall burn
I think you'll find that Nu Metal is indeed metal.
No, it isn't metal.
Do you have eyesight difficulties? It has metal in it, therefore it is a subgenre of metal. If you still disagree, please define metal.
Metalcore has metal in the name and it's still not metal. Ask anyone who knows anything about metal and they'll tell you that nu metal isn't metal.

You're dodging the question here; define metal. Both metalcore and nu metal are metal, they are just different kinds of metal, its a very wide genre.

Korn - Awful awful awful. Words cannot describe how truly terrible this band is.
Lamb of God - Approaching awfulhood.
Gojira - Eh.
Heaven Shall Burn - Wait what? People still listen to these clowns?
Disturbed - Again, in the vicinity of awfulness
Children of Bodom - Children of Scrotum
Mushuggah - I listened to one of their albums a while ago, and apparently I'm too dumb to like them.
Slipknot - Ghastly
Strapping Young Lad - Fuck Yeah Seaking

I'm gonna go with SYL on this one.

No Metallica? And that poll fails since about half those bands are not metal.
Oh, the irony. The majority of those bands are far more metal than Metallica ever were. Or, at least, is.

Anyway, back on track:

From the list Gojira is easily my favorite, they're at least original. From Sirius to Mars is a genious album. I mean, it's about a man who is taught how to fly by the Flying Whales from outer space.

But at the moment, I'm really into Arkona - Russian folk metal - and the new Darkthrone - blackened-crust-evil-rock-something-something, dunno what to call it.

It's a shame it's all mainstream bands on the list (save perhaps Gojira), the underground stuff is often more exciting.

I'm not talking about new Metallica... Korn, Slipknot and Disturbed are all nu metal wich isn't metal. Okay it's not exactly half of them.

Ho joy! All the mainstream, MTV-endorsed crap under the sun and nothing from Europe....apart from Children of Bodom.

Bottom line: they're all terrible. Now I'm off to listen to Kalmah.

Please tell me you're joking...

Herman Li can't play live and even in the studio he makes like 20 mistakes per song but then just edits it with false harmonics.

Sorry for double post.

Allright, agreed for most part there. Korn, Slipknot and Disturbed are disgraces to metal's good name, and I can agree that Metallica were metal. But many bands are more worthy to be on the list than a band who only was metal half it's career. Admittedly, there are also many bands that're more worthy than at least some of those on the list, but still.

I actually JUST saw Children of Bodom, Lamb of God, Municipal Waste, As I Lay Dying and God Forbid all in one show. Five straight hours of metal. It was amazing to say the least.

The major issue that you're going to have is that metal is such a diverse genre you'd be better off stating what sub-genre is your favourite. Although there's so much debate as to what constitutes a certain genre, leading to people saying varying and in some cases completely contradictory sub-genres for each band. Also what can be considered 'melodic' to one person could be crap to someone else, what can be considered 'speed' to some may be average to someone else.
Yeah, but I'll repeat what a friend once said: bands should be limited to three words to describe their genre.

'Cause really, is blackened melodic death metal a radically different fanbase from symphonic black metal? Is power-prog really a whole new genre, or just a way to drag in prog fans and power fans at the same time?

I guess it works--I was never a death or black metal fan, but I count Opeth among my favourites because of the prog factor. And the few black metal groups I listen to, like Chthonic, Lux Occulta and Dimmu Borgir, are the ones with melodic or symphonic elements.

Search for any Nu-Metal band and you won't find anything, and look in the forums and they'll tell you it's not metal.

None of those are truly metal bands in the truest sense of the word. The closest would be Children of Bodom, but they're even a bit too nu-metalish (nu-metal, despite the name and deplorable spelling, is NOT true metal).

The list is lacking even one of the following bands:

Slayer
Metallica
Mastodon
Amebix
Motorhead
Machine Head
Black Sabbath (wtf?)

I realize personal opinion is a valid reason for omitting some of those bands, but to not even include one? I mean the first 5 Black Sabbath albums are the definition of metal. These are all mall metal bands, honestly.

EDIT: Dragonforce is not a good band, they're for super technical wank-geeks, and the speed up their studio recordings to sound inhumanly fast. Epically un-metal.

Sorry for the preachy and long-winded first post, guys.
