Probably the Queen, although if I was to be honest, I don't really have much interest in either. e_e;

Oh Christ, neither. I don't care about the royals, and I don't care about football. In fact, I'll cheer for Parliamentary politics and rugby instead!

Both about the same. Lizzie brings tourists in, the Foxes bring money in. Neither really affect me, but the place would be sadder (and poorer) without them.

The people who care about the Queen are middle class housewives.

The people who care about football the most are working class males with little education.

Neither of these Demographics are particularly represented on the Escapist. Escapist is filled with nerds and geeks. Many of these nerds and geeks hate to be lumped in with said working class males with little education who rabidly follow football, and thus will vote for caring more about the queen just to make sure the footbal club option doesn't win.

Massive football fan. Seems that many people who play games and self identify as geeks (in my experience, obviously obviously) have this bizarre hatred for sports, and especially football.

I mean, cases in point right here...

I dunno, I just find the strength of these opinions to be a little weird.

Neither. Both are completely overpaid but at least the public willingly pays for the football clubs for their own entertainment

I actually put my bit there in as an example of how the average jock-phobic geek feels about sports. Thought really its true -- the people you see at football matches and at pubs, bellowing at the screen tend to be large bald men from council estates. I guess the little education part was a little too much of a generalisation and personal, but at the same time, little education and council estates do genuinely go hand in hand.

England/Britain excells at so many sports and sporting events. Just look at our performance in the '08 Olympics, and then consider the size difference between our country and the ones that did better than us.

We have two world champions for F1 drivers, driving in a semi-British team that has consistently performed.

England is the current Cricket Twenty20 team. England are the current 6 Nations champions. Andy Murray has climbed the closest to 1st seed in Tennis that a Scot or Brit has in many years. Ben Ainslie. Rebecca Adlington. Chris Hoy. David-muthafucking-Haye.

We have a fantastic sporting tradition, and yet most people still are obsessed with a game that we are all quite clearly very very fucking shit at. It makes absolutely no sense to me.

Oh I don't doubt the majority possibly are, but I think it's unfair to describe them as such in the same way said people probably think all people who play computer games are socially inept nerds who never leave their room. For one thing, every pub everywhere is often full on matchdays, and it's clearly ridiculous to suggest the majority of pubs are on council estates which straight away puts paid to the claim that the majority of fans in pubs are "large bald men from council estates."

You yourself said the "little education" claim is probably too personal, and that really says it all - that kind of opinion is the kind brought up as a defense for for not liking football all the time, when just simply admitting you don't find it exciting would be fine.

As an aside, I'm about to go out and a little tipsy, so I hope I'm not coming on too aggressively here. People hating on football is one of the last things that bother me, because (unlike games) people who don't like football aren't purposefully disruptive to those that are, and their views will generally be contained to an audience like this one. I just find it odd that (on the whole) on gaming forums people go out of their way to express hate of football (and other sports).

My local football team could be roundly beaten by four asthmatic toddlers. The Royals do at least secure us some trade and some tourism.

As I said though, I was giving an example of what the average Escapist thinks. I LIKE football, I voted for football. Everything I said was explaining why the results are as they are and why Escapists would vote for the Queen rather than Football just because of stereotypes they make about football.

Neither, I don't care about football at all, nor do I have any interest in the Monarchy.

Well, I dislike football, and I think the only thing the Queen (or the entire royal family) is good for is extra tourism.
I care about both very little, but I care about football less. At least the Queen contributes something positive to the country.

Well, my football club are often an embarrassment, so much so I some times wonder why I bother. But my love for them extends from the dark cynicism that resides in my soul and I sometimes get some perverse satisfaction when annother bizzare story unfolds at HoM. I will live by them and likely die by them (because they will send me to an early grave)
As for the Queen, I'm neither a monorchist or a republican. We do get some benefits from her like tourist revenue, but "God Save the Queen" doesn't give me goose bumps like my football team's song.
