Also, I'm curious, do you all go from the top where it meets the abdomen, along that vein?
Actually, although most people measure on the top, averages are usually made with a measurement on the bottom, which gives a higher number. That results in a lot of people thinking they're smaller than average when they actually aren't.

And it didn't make me feel any better, because I didn't know if it was an 'acceptable' size.
Depending on the studies, the average found are between 5 and 6 inches (between 12 and 15 cm is using centimeters).

Seriously, though, is being hung like a horse an advantage? Well, other than if you were seducing a horse, or someone that was into horses, I guess. Otherwise, if the peg is too big for the hole, it needs hammering in, doesn't it? Which sounds rather unsexy.
Length really matters much less than girth. While the vagina is a bit stretchable, its average size is between 3 and 4 inches, and only the first inch of so has pleasure nerves. In other words, from a pleasure point of view, you only need an inch or so. Not to mention most women don't actually orgasm from intercourse.
On the other hand, some women like it when it hits their cervix. Others hate it. It's a matter of taste.
This being said, if it's short enough that you can put it in the whole way, then when facing there will be contact between your body and her clitoris, adding extra stimulation. In other words shorter is often better, within reason.
As far as girth is concerned, it will depend on the person too, some will like or be able to take more girth than others. Having a big thing can be an asset and a problem. With non-vaginal sex (with male or female partners) too much girth can be a problem (if it's huge it's possible your partner won't let you try to go through the back, or won't be able to open their mouth wide enough) but length is less of a concern for either (because intestines are long enough for the biggest of penises, and mouths are the other way around, unless the person can deep throat, and if they can then there is plenty of room as well.
Only the vagina comes to an end early enough for it to be a possible issue.
Studies actually show that partners of men with smaller penises are more satisfied sexually on average. The theory I've read/heard is that they're less likely to rely on their penis alone to do the job.
