He was not the greatest person ever... if you are refering to the civil war, he was only doing it to preserve the union, getting blacks freed was just a side venture.

"After a 5 day blackout Lincoln yelled "I FREED WHO!?"

As great as we was relatively to many U.S. presidents, he still exercised certain dictatorial measures, waged total war of the South ("total" meaning that infrastructure, civilians, and general morale were also targeted), and was more concerned with national unity than with black enfranchisement (though that was still important to him).

None of this necessarily detracts from his character, but there are plenty of other famous figures who could do better.
Agreed. Like, say, Ghandi. Or Leonardo Da Vinci. Or Nicola Tesla.

Yes, that's a real photo. Yes, that's electricity. Yes, that's Tesla reading a book. My money's on him.

Nikola Tesla is seriously the real mad scientist of all humankind. I'm actually surprised that there isn't steampunk fiction centered around him or his ideas (maybe there is, but I don't generally follow that genre). Too bad he got so screwed in his own lifetime, though.

Yeeeeah, but in a way it's kind of his own fault too. He came up with a lot of really crackpot designs in his latter years, including--I'm dead serious--a series of doomsday devices which don't work. Oh, they all had some validity to the theory, but they never produced the effects he said they would; really I think he just did it to try and get some publicity. Meanwhile Thomas Edison was going on being a brilliant scientist and a brilliant businessman. I like Tesla more, though.

just because jesus of nasareth was real doesnt mean that he wass a messiah. just saying.

OT:idk, maybe. i dont know that much about him. but everyone does good things for their own selfish reasons.

Hell no. He was flawed, just like everyone else.

And he freed the slaves in the South because he knew it would fuck with the Confederacy's economy and leave them running back to the Union.
Ironically (looks at username) you ninja'd me on that. Lincoln WAS incredibly flawed and you have to remember that Lincoln was willing to give up the rights of the slaves as long as he kept the Union together.

Yeah, Lincoln was pretty cool, but you do realize that he was just as racist as the next guy in his time? He said on several occasions that, were it not for the civil war, he would have been perfectly happy to let slavery continue. He also described the mixing of blacks and whites as "undesirable" and attempted to have all freed slaves under the Emancipation Proclamation returned to Africa rather than give them rights as Americans (he gave up after a few failed attempts showed him the logistical impossibility of doing so).

Greatest human ever, Genghis Khan. If he hadn't died early, we could have had a second roman age, with the accompanying advances in science.
Instead we got a weaponized black plague. Which, to be fair, turned out to be a solid long term investment for western europe once all the dying was done.

he was a real person but no more important really than any person that can speak a few wise words.
he was not a messiah. that was decided around 400 years after he died.
Everyone fuck off, noone has shit on this guy.
