I prefer the notification of achievements but I prefer the way in which trophies work where you gain levels rather ending up with a stupidly high number which doesn't mean anything.

I prefer trophies, they just seem a lot simpler than throwing a load of random numbers around.
Though they are pretty much exactly the same.

Wait do the achievements have images attached to them? Trophies are kind of rewarding because you get to see what the images for each trophy are, curious to know if the Xbox has the same thing.

Trophies. Because anyone can achieve something. Not everyone one can achieve them well enough to get a trophy for it.

Achievements. I like the their names and descriptions; if you're reading through somebodies achievements for a game you don't have yet, they tell a story, which I like. I've noticed (for the few PS3 games that I have) that trophies tend not to do it as well as achievements do.

I prefer achievements, but I really don't see any difference. Either way, they usuallly give me a reason to replay the game.

I own both consoles and a multitude of games for each and, although I prefer my PS3 for many many things, I'm going to have to say Achievements. Gamerscore gives a better feeling of progression and competition with friends, it's a more flexible way of showing how much your effort for that particular accomplishment was worth (a scoring system that can range from 5 to 500 is far more telling that one that just shows gold, silver or bronze) and the Achievement notification sound is positively iconic.

Take into consideration that Trophies are an unabashed rip-off of Achievements in the first place, add to that the fact that everyone, wether they own a 360 or not knows the Achievement tone (if you say you don't, you're lying) and no one who doesn't own a PS3 knows what a Trophy sounds like, and you have a clear victor in the race for best entirely unecessary accomplishment tracking system.

Achievement: Don't have a PS3, want a PS3 though. I like the Achievement sound, and besides that, I don't really have a reason.

Achievements. Easier too track score than trophies. And adding an obligatory Platinum at the end of every game? Meh, don't like it.

Achievements, because for some reason it's much more gratifying to get a number instead of a stupid little trophy.

Also, a ton of PS3 games don't have trophy support, so your level and progress kind of mean nothing. You can play games for hours and hours and get no sort of trophy reward whatsoever because the game came out too early.

Valkyria Chronicles, I'm looking at you.

i suppose trophy, because i have a ps3, but i like the fact that the gamerscore from acheivments can be used as money in the xbox live store, or at least i think i heard that somewhere. frankly, they're the same damned thing, only separated by system. no preference available.
