I'm going to have to go for a yes, but only the offline ones. I like playing online and all, but some games that I really enjoy and actually want to go for 1000/1000 (or whatever) on get ruined because I have to go kill 50 billion people in six seconds and play a million games.

Ok so not that bad, but I don't really like vs mode in a lot of games, I'm all about co-op. My problem is I level off in everything, so I'mm GOOD at them all where other people - the ones playing the game in question - are great.

Makes online vs mode achievements impossible for me.

I find achievements, especially on World of Warcraft, help push people to do things they normally wouldn't. People never raided the enemy cities, and now they do it all the time.

It depends on how they are used.
TF2 has a good idea since a good few of the achievements encourage you to use better tactics to get them. On the other hand achievements that ask you to kill a certain amount of enemies like l4d and gears of war seam like a way for developers to make people play more of their game

Achievements are great I guess. I don't have an Xbox, but on my cousin's the only achievements I have are a few of the skulls in Halo 3, just so we could make our spaces marines a little cooler. XD
The one game I've had that has achievements is Battlefront Renegade Squadron, and they usually were just get certain number of kills a certain way. Except on the bottom of the list of the achievements are multiplayer ones were you have to play on a certain day and TOP THE SCORETABLE. I know the many hackers I've ran into have that achievement...
Then Medal of Honor Heroes had some Medals, but it was just for better performance.

Yeah, I totally agree with everyone so far: Online Achievements are a b*tch.

I think this can be summarised by saying something like:

Offline achievements are great.
Online achievements can be good if it's something that can be earned by naturally playing the game. (like kill achievements or ranking achievements).

Looking through the leaked MW2 achievement list I'm sad to see no Prestige achievement, as that was the one thing CoD5 had down. That would mean you can still get 1000/1000G and get the Presige achievements for 0G in time.

Something to think about there, IW!

achievments are a very clever marketing ploy that keeps gamers playing for hours just for the extra gamerscore. It works well, even on me. It gives people goals in the game and they can be quiet fun at times.

I'm an achievement whore so I'm all for achievements as long as they are not online ones. They are by far the worst kind to try and get.

for me, they're pointless. i could care less.

the achievements to unlock stuff like camo on guns in CoD4 bothered me though. Some of them take just way too long, like red tiger. They should be reasonable, so even people who dont play just that one game for months on end can still get them.

I dunno, I don't care about them in the slightest to be honest. I used to go for the easy ones way back when i first got my xbox, but I haven't even looked at the achievements tab (barring ODST, I wanted the vidmasters only because they got me recon) in the last like, 2 years.

Yay so long as they keep "Win [x amount] online matches" or "Score [x amount] kills in a career" out of the picture.

When it's online, they really just reward you for persistence rather than skill. And they really just manage to piss me off when I play online and I can't experience part of the game because I always die right before getting the 10-kill streak.

This is going to be strange but the first time I heard of Achievements and the gamer points with them I thought you could use your gamerscore like a XBOX currency to buy DLC or even live arcade games. But I guess time makes fools of us all.

I'll choose option #5. "Achievements are meaningless, I don't care about offline OR online achievements, and honestly I'm not sure why anyone does."

Needs an option of "Don't care, achievements can be whatever they like as long as they don't get in the way."
