Only if it was a very small increase. Maybe 5% or something. As other as have said there is always the mute button just a few button presses away.

this is how one of my rare CoD gaming sessions goes:
1. go on multiplayer.
2. join match.
3. mute all.
4. enjoy the game.

but if i catch a hilarious argument, i just turn the volume down so i dont rupture an eardrum (i honestly think my left ear, which is the one my mic headphone covers, is partly deaf) but still get a little kid yelling 'how the fuck was that a kill? he shot me in the arm i got a fuckin' headshot!'

be honest. you have done that at least once because they're so damn funny, thinking they're good and complaining.

Well, I'm 15, sooo....

I'm gonna say no.

I usually avoid talking on a mic anyway unless the game is heavily focused around teamwork, such as team fortress 2.

it doesn't matter to me one bit if my ally or enemy is a kid. the only thing that matters is if they can do thier job or not. but i can't stand listening to them talk. thank goodness for mute.

I'm 25... and no. I don't care. I seldom play online and when I do, I seldom have voice chat on, and when I do, it's with friends and I'll just mute other ppl.

If I'm playing online it's with friends and we tend to play with full teams and are generally in a party so we don't have to hear others. So I don't have to worry about them ruining the team aspect of the game and usually can't hear them. If we are playing something that requires you to be in in-game chat, then we just mute the annoying ones or troll them.

No. Because I happen to know there is at least one 17 year old ten times as mature as some of the 30 year olds I know. I might have missed the bloke had I turned on an age limiter. And that would seriously have sucked. People age at different rates, not everyone is going to be annoying at twelve and not everyone is going to be nice to be around at 30.

However, I do think XBL should have groups, like here on the Escapist. Monitored and administrated by the people who form them. Self policing does wonders.

Unfortunately, beside initial screening, there's no way to verify a kid isn't playing on an adults account.

5$ a month? Great. You know the majority of people would actually do that? Kinda unfair on the kids who are good team players, who now have a significantly reduced playerbase to face off against. Especially in games that are declining in popularity- it would not be fair that being under a certain age meant access to less fun in-game.

No I wouldn't.

I honestly think I have heard more douchebag "adults" than children.

Besides that, I usually listen in to converstions until I find out if there is someone I'd like to talk to or not. Then I choose to either join the conversation, or not.

Hint: Most of the time I don't join the conversation.

This assuming the average adult player is any better behaved.

And no, as the mute button is free.
^ this. Plus I play on PS3 and refuse to pay for a service that should be free anyways so, unlikely.

I'd rather have some kind of skill based match-up system.
Or at least some kind of dynamic ladder system.

I'd pay maybe 25-33% more on XBL or MMOs if it guaranteed a more mature community. The advantage of being an adult is having disposable income and I would gladly pay a premium for a better experience. While I'm at it I will also pay for (legal age!) teenagers to fetch me my coffee, clean my car, dance in gogo cages and refer to me as "Mr President".
