You're not the ONLY person who likes it, surely. I REALLY dislike this kind of music, however, and prefer something more upbeat and, dare I say, original.
Sorry! To me that style of music sounds like whining into a microphone. It's all very nasally.
Not to say you're not allowed to like it even if lots of people don't. Lord knows I enjoy some music that would have many people asking what the hell is wrong with me, and how can I even listen to it?
So, the time has come again; I'm obsessed with a song.
Which one?
Thing is, I'm the only person I know irl that loves this kind of music.
Another thing I've noticed is that...most people hate it.
IT MAKETH ME SAD.
Tl;dr: What do you guys think of this genre of music? [I suppose it's branded hardcore by some, but it varies...yeah]. Do you think it's alright? Do you find it god awful?
Also: Go on then, what do you guys think of the emo/scene subculture?
Don't be too brutal, guys:].
[sub]...that really didn't warrant a tl;dr. Ah well...[/sub]
ALALSO: Yerr, this isn't the best example of the genre, but it's a song I'm enjoying right now that I thought I'd share:].
Triplealso: I know I'm not the only one, there are plenty of us; but nothing beats an attention grabbing title eh:].
The genre is post-hardcore. Like you said, this is far from the best example of the genre. The "subculture" is composed of a lot of different people. Sure, I go to post-hardcore concerts, but a lot of people there don't act the way you think they would. A lot of them do, but a lot of them don't.
There are a lot of GREAT post-hardcore bands out there (At The Drive-In, Attack Attack, Jamie's Elsewhere, The Fall of Troy, Broadway, Chiodos, D.R.U.G.S., Sleeping with Sirens, Escape the Fate, The Word Alive, e.t.c.). There are also a lot of not so good ones, as with any genre.
As for you being the only one who listens to it in your area, that kinda sucks. My advice - go to Warped =)
i'm past my emo period, but i still listen to some old ones, well not that old. but i'm open to all kinds of music
this song, not good for me, its too typical american-emo. the music arrangement, lyrics, video clip, cinematography, etc.. all leads to that. and music like this does not tend to last long (i'm also reffering to mainstream american music, not that i have anything against it). thats why i all for european and indie music, their music are timeless.
Lost Prophets, Saosin are way better than this IMO.
I listen to this sort of music but there are much better examples see The Blackout especially the first EP, or Enter Shikari, although Enter Shikari have their own twist especialy with their more recent stuff. There is loads of better music in this genre out there
I don't like many actual hardcore bands. The closest I get to it is post-hardcore.
I find a lot of hardcore bands sound pretty much exactly the same, and I don't like the vocals. The only hardcore band (that I know of) that doesn't sound the same as the rest is A Skylit Drive, but that's because the singer sounds like a chick, which I also don't like too much. [Awaiting a reply that either says "That's a dude?!" or "You're dumb, he definitely sounds like a guy."]
Anyway, no, you're not the only one who likes it. It's pretty damn popular where I live. I find myself more geared towards deathcore, ska punk and other things that are in the "we started at punk but not really, sort of" family.
NASA doctor Dr. David Thorpe has something to say about that!
AquaVita requested: Dredg. You simply cannot possibly tear this band apart. Believe me, I'm better at snobbishly tearing up bands then you are, and I can't find anything wrong with them
Okay. Right. You're better at snobbishly tearing down bands than me, but you can't think of ANYTHING wrong? I find that pretty fucking hard to believe. I've never even heard of this band, but you presented an interesting challenge, so I looked them up on The All Music Guide.
Now, I've never even heard them, but just by reading the info on one fucking album I hate them already. Check out this tracklist:
1. Movement I: @45ºN. 180ºW (Dredg) - 4:23
2. Lechium (Dredg) - 1:01
3. Movement II: Crosswind Minuet (Dredg) - 6:24
4. Traversing Through the Arctic Cold, We... (Dredg) - 1:32
5. Intermission (Dredg) - 6:37
6. Movement III: Lyndon (Dredg) - 3:07
7. Penguins in the Desert (Dredg) - 4:13
8. Movement IV: RR (Dredg) - 2:59
9. Yatahaee (Dredg) - 3:44
10. Movement V: 90 Hour Sleep (Dredg) - 20:20
Okay, who do these dumb motherfuckers think they are? Album fucking divided up into movements? With an intermission? And a fucking 20 minute jam session at the end? Okay, either they're the greatest geniuses in the history of rock music or this record is totally laughably pretentious. Since I've never even heard their name mentioned by anyone in my life, I'm assuming that they're not the greatest geniuses in the history of rock, because if someone actually pulled that bullshit off they'd be fucking gods. Since the record got 3 stars and the review contains this quote: "...singer Gavin Hayes outlines a story of a wanderer's search for and attainment of redemption," maybe they?re not gods. Ooh, so it's a grunge-metal concept album! Sounds just absolutely fucking peachy. I'll be sure to go out and buy all their insane bullshit right away.
Look, emo bands, (the section from 33 to around a minute in particular.), doing dum dum dum over and over again using an open note is not brootal. It's fucking boring.
Hey, you want the low end of your guitar, that's heavy right? Yeah, do it right.
See how that adds dischords and odd melodies over it for flavour, so you can headbang to something musically fucking interesting.
Sorry, I just really hate the kind of lazy playing dross the Op linked. It's the most basic rythm ever, and one note.
Edit: It's fine if you like it or whatever. But seriously. They're lazy bums and I'm calling them on it.
