"Am I the only one-" I don't even have to finish reading the sentence to give an answer answer : no you aren't. Because you're asking this question on internet.

As for the song itself - I don't like it. I don't think it's an abomination or anything like that, but there's nothing remarkable about it.

I have to say that I like the hardcore stuff for the instrumentals the screaming is a HUGE turn off. I mean I saw a Metal band once called Walls of Jericho and all they did was scream fuck for their entire 15 minute set. HUGE disappointment.

Firstly, they're not my band.

Secondly, that's not a very good album.

Thirdly, what? Did you post that to get a rise out of me? Well, Mr Troll. It didn't work. Go back to your bridge and stop pestering everyone.
I'm sorry, new friend, NASA science owes allegiance only to the pursuit of truth and powdered orange drink.
New friend huh... Yeah, I thought so.

I am always looking for new bands to listen to and I have to say that Dredg has my interest to look into. They aren't amazing from the two songs you posted but they are really good.

Most people hate it because it brings very little that's new or particularly interesting to the table. The clean vocals are done alike most alternative rock bands of the early 21st centuary, mostly originating in the US, see the most popular being You Me at Six, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, All Time Low, some Cobra Starship, as as for the harsh vocals, they've been prominent for years and have been done better than they are here, see post-hardcores Bring Me The Horizon, Adam Kills Eve, Alexisonfire, Underoath.

This band is very similar to Escape the Fate.

As for what I think about the song, it's not bad, it's not great. Like I said, I've heard to same material, better, elsewhere.

I'm no music expert though, there are some very interesting in depth roots of Hardcore to Post-Hardcore online, citing everything from Bowie, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Black Flag, Helmet, The Used to Enter Shikari...

Hardcore is more Hatebreed by the way, or I'd say so.

Sorry, I just really hate the kind of lazy playing dross the Op linked. It's the most basic rythm ever, and one note.
Ah, the lost art of the breakdown. They do indeed get a great bit repetitive. The worst offender in my opinion is Asking Alexandria's first album, which is kind of disappointing because they're signed to the same label as Periphery.

Post-hardcore does have a lot of great guitar players (learning The Fall of Troy tabs helped my tapping technique a lot), but a lot of them just resort to lazy breakdowns.

Nope...it sucks.

Looks like 'scene-core' crap.

Singing like a pre-pub girl little boy then growling doesn't do my fancy.

I was gonna quote your post but I kinda forgot, I think its important to understand that most genres are really just broad generalizations of many different genres that warrant more specification, Alternative Rock for example should not exist as a genre, because of the definition of what makes something "Alternative" to rock is way too broad, same thing with genres like Emo and Indie *blank*, when they use such terminology its to express what social group likes said music. Making it more about making your playlist match then about actually exploring what music can be.
I agree, although I really don't really think genres should get specific or detailed, because they can never accurately describe music. I like that they are vague, have multiple meanings, and different uses. For example, I like to call things jazz that don't sound like what most people think jazz sounds like, but I feel that a lot of music has the essence of that genre in it. I like tracking down the roots of music and using labels abstractly and liberally.
