I down own a cell phone because I don't have anything worth talking about to friends. If they ahve something important they come to my damn house, and it better be important. I'm usually on the comuter anyways so I don't need an extra gadget that will cost me.

I have one, but I never take it out of the house, which sort of defeats the purpose; it's a combination of not caring/bothering and just being forgetful.. I personally can't stand cell-phones; they are almost always social and inanely so. They're hard to hear on as well, for I am hearing-impaired. Anyways, they're easy to lose; I should know: my sister has lost, like ten of them so far.

I have one, but only for when I might need it. Which isn't often, seeing as I'm always home. My friend doesn't have one, though.

Heh, I don't keep one because when I did have one all it did was gather dust because I use the internet for connecting. So I'll answer no.

I'm 16 and I have no cell phone. Apparently this is a big problem to my friends so for my birthday they're buying me one.

I have one but I really only use it to keep in touch with my fiance or make 10 second calls saying "I am down the street be there in a minute".

I feel the same. I can only pity the fool that spends hours toiling over a stupid little machine... oh wait :(

Good thing my PC isn't portable.

I have a phone but i dont often use it.
But I find it important to have one, for emergencies. You can pick them up for like £10 these days.

I don't have one and frankly, I don't think I'll get one unless I have kids one day. I use the internet for lots of things, and I use the phone for lots of things, but there are times when I am unplugged and I don't want anything intruding on that. People seem to be obsessed with the damn things, and now that a bunch of them have Twitter and Facebook it's a hundred times worse. And don't even get me started on the iPhone (aka The Borg)... We let these things control our lives too much, and I won't be beholden to them. If I owned one people would expect me to use it, so I just don't own it.

Plus, I don't want to pay for it. You iPhone people are nuts - four thousand dollars over the span of your contract? You should be in a mental institution. It's a damn phone.

No I don't, because I've never seen a need. I suppose when I find a need and the extra cash each month I will get one.

Wow I'm surprised that one-third of the Escapists here do not own a cellphone. I too don't own one (well I do, but it's never been activated and is currently half a country away).

Mobile phones, as we call them downunder, are very useful things. Call people in case you forget what they want at the store, call people to tell them that you're ready to get picked up after work, call places to get a reservation while driving from work, call the police or an ambulance in case of trouble - the practical uses are endless.

I have a cell phone and I use it all the time, but only for practical reasons (If I need to say something to someone I'll say it in person or through an email). As a result, my phone bill comes to around 9 dollars every month.

Mobiles are both useful AND cheap.
