Yes, the British have their own distinct charm.
Why bother to scoop up a few extra fans at the expense of the loads of fans already present.

If you're going to make another country's version of a country personified, you have to restart from scratch, because both countries are very different.

England has more in common with France than America.

If they make an American version of Doctor Who, chances are that "Doctor Who" will be his name, he'll have a ray gun, and he'll be much more willing to kill his enemies.

But if it does get made, i hope it fails horribly while the BBC version flies high.

See, I want to get into Dr. Who, but there's about 13 seasons that I haven't caught up on. For someone like me that has neither the time nor really the want to pass through all of those backlogs, an American version would give people like me the chance to view it fresh and from the start. Then, when little hints and things start getting dropped and we go "what?" we can come to internet and find out "Oh, it's an homage to when they did 'this' in the first season..."

Not that I'm actually rooting for one. I think Britain has done just fine with their own stuff. It's like watching Are You Being Served? I love that show, but an American version just wouldn't really work. Anyway, I just wanted to provide an example of why some people might think it's a good idea. Hopefully I've accomplished this. Now, what did we learn boys and girls? Thats right. Never go outside.

Thats just typical Americans though. I mean thats like us saying " I think South Park should be Brittish". No America we thought of Doctor Who and its Brittish from the beggining, so no you cant take him from us like you did with that programme The Office which was also an originally Brittish programme.

Doctor Who by Michael Bay

The TARDIS becomes a sports car and travels back through time, suffers a malfunction and destroys the CANON time line. The Dalek are now Decepticons, and The Doctor finds himself in a world of Sparkly Vampires and Werewolves.

Lots of explosions and English people played by Americans.

13 seasons? Are you watching the really old episodes then?

If you start on Season 1 of the reboot you'll be fine. They spend an entire 25 minutes establishing the Doctor and the Tardis for people not around in the 70's.

From then on it's around 4 more seasons of 12 episodes. Simple really.
Well I was generalizing. My point was that someone that doesn't want to catch up on so much could do with a remake for people that aren't familiar at all with the show. I personally hope it stays British, and eventually I do plan to get around to watching them. I love some good sci fi, and from what I understand, it's really good. I need to finish Fringe first.

I just laughed myself into tears. That's is brilliant.

OP, I don't follow the series, but if it is a British icon, why turn it into American?!

btw you dont need to watch all the seasons, aslong as u watch the beginning of one season, you will know what you need to know for the rest

however i would also surgest watching all seasons for the doctor you want to watch, so if you were going to watch tom baker (the 5th doctor) watch his from the beginning or if your going to watch Matt Smith (11th and best doctor) watch all his... shouldnt be too hard since hes just finished his first season

oh god... don't American companies have a freaking clue? Do they really think their audiences are that shallow they can't enjoy a show that might have funny accents and a few regional jokes?

I'm not British or American, but as far as I can see this idea is disrespectful of both nationalities.

It's the same way I felt when I heard they freaking DUBBED The Castle [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118826/], an Australian movie, for an American release because "the accents were too thick and it was too Australian". I wanted to puke.

I mean give me a break, come up with your own stuff or air the original versions, stop remaking someone else's stuff with American actors.
