Why does everything have to have an American version? Can't American's just watch the original?

American audience cant understand that language the brits speak.. it aint English to them.
the only good Americanized tv show i ever saw was whose line is it anyway and it was improv comedy not a tv series. doctor who just wont be the same if it became american...

Yes, if only for the accent. Like, that's really the only difference I can see between the two choices- I really like the British accent.

I think we hate the Americans more.
I don't think so...
Cummon they're FRENCH
We have more in common with the French because they hate us as much as we hate them :)

OT: I'd already accepted that US TV has run out of ideas, but I couldn't imagine Doctor Who working as a US series. Mainly because the original is too well known among the fan-base it would be aimed at.

I don't watch the show but I can think of so many reasons that is a retarded idea. The Doctor is such a huge part of British pop culture that the two are intertwined. it would lose everything that made it good and very few people would like it.

Red Dwarf is one of my favorite shows of all time and I can't believe they made an American version of it. If anyone has seen it could you let me know what it was like? Was it as horrible as I imagine it was? I don't want to look myself, I am afraid it will make me too sad.

Trust me friend you do NOT want to watch it, to say it is awful would be a huge understatment.

As a brit the idea of an american verson of dr. who makes me quite sad. Most of my friends are american, my girlfriend is, they love dr.who and part of what they love is the "british" part.

I think america could do with less americanising and allowing more exposure to other countries tv shows. I think americans would appreciate that a lot more than the tripe churned out by TV companies thinking they are all scared and confused by anything that isn't american.

Opps I meant to choose yes for "only British" and instead choose no, but for because I thought it meant "not American".
SO yeah Doctor Who is a British thing, through and through, we can't change that.

Why the hell must everything be Americanised to be relatable to American audiences?

EDIT: Holy shit, 700 posts. What a milestone.

So I heard of a freind that an american company wants to make a new doctor who.
What are your thoughts on this?
I think it and he should stay british for 2 reasons Red dwarf and why would he suddenly change after what is 47 years?
I think, I think the BBC will tell them that yes, they can make a Dr Who program of their own.

As long as they pay them one hundred billion dollars bwahahahaha!!!

Not going to happen, the BBC makes too much money from Who and it's DVD/broadcast rights sales, I can't see any US company making an offer that either pays the BBC enough to let them set up in comeptition or meets the inevitable standard needed. They'll remember Red Dwarf too.

Why does anyone actually care?

Yeah theres a list of British shows as long as my arm that have been sold to other nations and suck but i haven't actually ever watched a single one of them.....

So what difference does it make, let them pay to use the concept and make a crappy version of the show while we will continue to watch the British version that can now likely have a bigger budget.

Americans should stop following the tradition of butchering our shows.

Is it because on the BBC we don't have ad breaks every ten seconds?

Couldn't be any worse than the current series. I like the new doc and all but the stories... eew.

That tenant one for example. Spend the entire episode getting to know the flatmates suddenly reveal the mystery "hey look it's a sort of primitive TARDIS". Sounds like a pretty good lead episode of a three part story but what we got was two minutes of god-awful "let's kill it with love!" and an abrupt exit.

Utter arse.

on second thoughts there's a chance BBC Wales will get some decent scriptwriters in the US a series that bad would see the networks kill the show dead and Dr Who has always been a bit hit and miss.

American shows and movies are popular all over the world. If people in other parts of the world don't have any problem watching a show from another country why do people here in the US? I have never had any problem watching foreign films and TV and honestly do not see why others would have such a problem with it, but apparently they do.

Considering what happened when it transpired that new series would have a redesigned logo [BBC got death-threats], no. Terrible idea. It would probably lead to a nerdier version of 9/11.

Indeed, as I say I know a lot of americans who enjoy foreign TV/films, having spent a lot of time in the USA i know americans are not as shallow as the TV big wigs seem to belive they are.

I think part of it though is more to do with money, they see a foreign program is popular think "hey we want a slice of that pie" and remake it with basicaly all the money making rights that come with. At least thats how I see it.

I certainly do not belive the idea that americans cannot identify with things that are not americanised, that just isn't true, ive spent enough time over there to see that for myself.

Wel, it seems to be one of the only thing we Brits get respect for, so yeah, keep him British.
