I get defensive whenever I get serious about a game, so as per usual in a single person RPG I pick rogue classes first 100% of the time.

Though the realization that 'backstabbing' is so difficult at melee range in Bethesda games lead me to be an archer in all future play-throughs.

Sneaking. It's probably the most important skill in the game as every guild has at least a couple of quests that require you to remain undetected for at least a period (Dark Brotherhood and Thieves guild REVOLVE just about entirely around this skill) and it's always handy to be able to sneak past an enemy you'd rather not fight.

On my first play-through, I go knight (tank/restoration) because that is the simplest. Use sword on enemies, use potions/healing on self, get armor.

Then I tend to go stealthy, because I steal stuff and role-play, and like exploring everywhere.

Additionally, I almost always play as non-humanoid races, so I go Orc or Khajiit depending and give them authentic names using their respective languages. Never really got into Argonians, because I felt that they didn't fit their race stats, being more like agile warriors than thieves, as they get described in the in-game books.

Sneaking is the best fun I have ever had. There is just something satisfying about running around finding creative ways to end people in the dark brotherhood quests...

I use ever skill the dark brotherhood robes enhance. Bow, blade, sneak, and illusion being my favorites.

Win the game:
1. Start a Breton under the sign of the Apprentice
2. Tag: Conjuration, Illusion, Restoration, Alteration, Mercantile, Armorer/Sneak
3. Summon a tough creature
4. Turn invisible
5. ???
6. PROFIT!!!

Hm...in oblivion I usually had a different character for every play style. Had a bosmer ranger with illusion magic. Had a nord sword and board tank type with alchemy and restoration as backup. Also had a mostly pure magic class, a mage with dagger as backup.

In morrowind however, I had a rogue mage type class, similar to a nightblade but more magic based, it specialised in most magic schools except restoration(which is kinda a bad thing to be without) conjuration and enchant. Also used a sneaky pure rogue and 2 types of fighters.

Recently I went Conjuration (And admittedly speed-leveled it) and Heavy Armor. Wasn't all that hard.

My favourite is Blade/Destruction. (Usually Light Armor as not to waste too much magic)

I loved my sneaky character. I liked to feel like an assassin. Gimme a bow and some shadows and the whole room is dead in a few minutes.

I've played this so many times and accidentally deleted my character, but I always come back to it. Once I had a custom class similar to witch hunter but with a short sword and a little tougher, and on the time limit level towards the end I just ran through the entire thing using a high level paralyze on touch spell on any enemy. Epic. They were all collapsing and falling off towers and into lava, so fun.

always go for the magic slash melee mix but always do the thieve guild missions first and then normally make up my own by hitting the hardest possible places to steal from always good fun

The stealth mechanics are absolutely fantastic. Some of the best I've ever experienced outside of the stealth genre. I find sneaking around makes the game an awful lot more intense and engaging.

Hiding in the shadows, creeping slowly around corners, staying out of sight, waiting for guards to patrol by so you can take one out without alerting the others, running like fuck when they spot you. I don't know, it just brings out the little kid in me that used to play imaginary, hide-and-seek or chasing style games with my friends around the neighbourhood. It's no wonder TES:V is my most eagerly awaited game.
