Poll: Anime Dubbed VS Subbed

I like both, I generally prefer subbed however I think there is a place for dubbed. Dubbed helps people unfamiliar with anime get into it better. After that they might find out about/ start watching subbed. When I was a little kid dubbed was how I got into anime, and if it didn't exist I would have never discovered it so I can't muster the hate many people have for it.
I watch the majority of my anime subbed. The only anime I ever watched as a dub was Eureka 7 which is still my favorite anime to this day.
Why, on these threads, is there never a "Depends" option. I don't inherently watch anime in either way.
If the english dub is awful then I'll watch the sub.
If the voice acting is anywhere from good to tolerable I'll watch the english dub (Or if I don't have the attention span to read subtitles).

Seriously though, I can understand people who only listen to the show in the background or something preferring English (sort of), but those who actually have the time to pay attention? What the huck. Then again its probably a matter of getting used to it, I learned my basic English from watching Hercules and other shows with subtitles.
Edit: Thought I'd this in, to me hearing a show in a language other than that it was made in is like watching a show which was redrawn by disney (or if it was originally disney than imagine it all as horribly done stop motion). I wouldn't want to listen to the voices they dub it to in real life, why the duck would I put myself through that when watching something for leisure?
More often then not, subtitled versions tend to be superior to their dubbed counterparts. This isn't all that suprising, actually. Due to the sheer size of it's animation industry, the voice acting profession carries a lot of importance in Japan. It's nothing suprising or uncommon in Japan for one to become famous entirely based on their voice acting career. In comparison, voice acting is viewed as a profession of little significance outside of Japan (particularly in western countries), hence why a lot of voice actors are simply regular actors looking for work.
That said, there are exceptions to this rule. The dubs for Mobile Suit Gundam and Fullmetal Alchemist (the original anime, not the Brotherhood reboot) were done preety well. Characters had appropriate voices and the translation did not stray from the original meaning.
Of course, another problem with dubbing is that translators sometimes feel compelled to completely butcher the source material by going too far with the changes. Yu-Gi-Oh! is a notorious example. Oh sure, 4Kids did dub the anime....but they also censored a great deal of things (sometimes in a way that made absolutely zero sense) and rewrote entire plot points in the process. Overall, the only good thing about the 4Kids version was Dan Green.

Depends how good the voice actors are and how lazy i'm feeling.
I used to watch everything subbed, but recently i'm too lazy to have my eyes glued to the screen constantly. I hate glancing away for a second and having to fiddle around trying to rewind it a few seconds because i missed some subs.
From what i've seen dubbed animes really aren't as bad as people make out. I'm sure it does get really bad but i'm yet to see acting bad enough to warrant watching it subbed instead.

Phew, I was afraid I may lose all my faith in humanity. In that case I agree with you, some dubs (I recall Princess Mononoke was among them) aren't bad, I still prefer the original language but its nice that they took to dubbing a bit more seriously.Nazulu said:
