Sure, so long as we can regulate it a bit. Nice to discuss mecha with some guys without taking up a whole news post or recommending series to other people. So long as were all calm about it and we don't have "Which anime is the worst/all anime sucks" threads that are obvious flame bait... sure.
Yeah.

I'm always willing to discuss a particular anime or manga's merits when held up to the standards of other media, not just judging anime by other anime. I mean, I'm up for serious discussion of the plot, characters, originality, stuff like that. What I don't care for so much is the token guys who hate anime and go looking for anime discussions just so they can say, "I don't like anime. This sucks."

Anime is really just an art style combined with the cultural quirks that arise when something is made in Japan (as opposed to wherever you live). When you really think about it, that's a fairly superficial difference. They've still got japanese equivalents of the X-Files (Witch Hunter Robin), The Matrix (Ghost in the Shell predates Matrix, but whatever) and Pulp Fiction (Cowboy Bebop), among others. It's for this reason I don't understand folks that "hate" all anime, since that's kinda like hating all British novelists. That's my two cents on that.

But yeah, and anime section of the forum would be alright as long as, like every other place in The Escapist, people made an effort to create interesting threads that stimulated intelligent discussion... Although I foresee Naruto becoming a bit of a punching bag (like Halo) around the forum.

Actually, I changed my mind. It would be a good way to find stuff that your interested in. The reason why I didn't watch much anime before was because I couldn't find one that I was interested in (That, and spiky hair, but for an interesting story, I could get over that) and it seems like a good way to get people interested in something that they didn't even know they were interested in.
This is exactly one of the main reasons for having an anime forum; for recommending good anime to people who want something new or think it's all hentai or Naruto (that and a place with moderation against anime bashing trolls). As for the spiky hair thing, I used to have that problem with anime eyes and was somewhat freaked out by them. It was when I was six (I used to have a fear of big or close-up eyes for some reason) and was starting out with Pokemon, but I got over it.

I'm personally a modest fan of good, SHORT anime. Anything more than 26 episodes is pushing it too far. I hate overused plots, witch is almost what anime is about, unfortuantely.
Generally with you there. I prefer series of a shorter predefined length because they have better plotted, less drawn out stories as opposed to the decay and filler of shonen fighting series (seriously, cast of Bleach, how long does it have to take to save Rukia?).

Why are we still debating this? The Escapist groups were the solution, at least I think they were. Im gonna go check the anime group now.

I think I posted something somewhere about how there's this unwritten rule (that I made up) that goes like this:

For every episode past #26 (or even manga volume past #10), the chance of the quality dropping increases exponentially.

This is because an anime creator (like EVERYONE else) needs to have a clear idea of where they want the series to go and how they want the series to end, from the beginning to the end, every step of the way. The longer the series goes, the less chance the series creator knows where he/she wants to take it, and the greater chance of filler episodes and protracted fight scenes.

Witch Hunter Robin knew where it wanted to go, and it went there. Inuyasha did not. Naruto did not.

Anime creators should be beholden to the same rules as American TV/film makers, including the rule "be concise" and "length for the sake of itself is bad." Oh, and "don't pull plot elements out of your butt."

They are, that's the problem.

A Mangaka creates something, it carries on for a little while, gets popular, and the publisher gets big old yen signs in their eyes, and whatever the story was at the start is over, it goes into the big old shonen sausage machine, and the same old shonen gubbins comes out the other end, and it goes on as long as the publisher says it goes on, which means it goes on until they've squeezed the very last dregs of juicy money from the product.

It's been happening since Dragonball, Toriyama wanted to end that at least three times before eventually managing it, and the new remake of the anime has cut something like a third off the length by excising filler.

And things get worse when they get adapted to anime partway thrugh a run, because the anime production schedule is faster than that of manga, so they adapt everything they've got, then they run out and it's filler time baby until the mangaka has some more content. And because the anime team don't know what's going to happen, that means the filler can't change anything in the characters or relationships, so it's meaningless.

One Piece isn't immune from it either with only one of it's filler arcs being any good (On par with the manga works) and that was the G8 arc.
If One Piece hadn't been a gigantic engine of +5 money generation, Luffy would have been the Pirate King long ago. (Edit: This is another thing, is that even relevant to his goals any more, or has the inevitable macguffin drift forgotten it by now?)

There should be one if there's demand for it. I mean, even if ALL the Escapist members don't use it, that doesn't mean there shouldn't be one. The members who DO use it will be grateful AND will unclog the Off-Topic forums.

Considering that 432 out of 598 would use it, I think it is worth a trial run at the very least.

Also why did this get de-sticked? :(

Probably because of the presence of an Anime user group. It's the closest thing right now to a forum.
