My problem with Japanime is that 95% of it falls somewhere between Bizarre Jelly 5 and Princess Robot Bubblegum.
Also; why do Japanese cartoons get their own special name, but cartoons from other countries don't?
Are you telling me Metalocalypse and Frisky Dingo don't have special names? As far as names for Western animations go, they're up there with the best crazy names Japan has to offer as anime titles. I mean "Amazing Wonder Three" - that has a pretty normal name by today's standards.

Even Ralph Bakshi's animations from the 1970s have awesome names like "Heavy Traffic" - and who the hell honestly thinks "Heavy Metal" isn't on a similar level of title creativity to "Full Metal Alchemist"? (Note: Heavy Metal isn't as good as FMA, I am merely saying the title is comparably awesome.)

I guess Japanese people are more creative in naming their animations. Maybe Western animation TV producers are afraid to take risks in naming their animations because the name of the show is targeted to the audience. So maybe it goes (weird audience) = (weird animation plus title to match)? Spongebob Squarepants doesn't seem that weird from the title, but the content of Spongebob makes up for it.

I honestly love animé, been for several years. (you know you're addicted when you've watched over 175+ animés) Dx
175? Ah, to live in the nineties again! Nay my brother, I personally own more than 2000 tapes and dvds of the sacred anime. I've watched pretty much everything that has come out for the last 25 or so years, and a bunch from before that period as well.

Do I care if it is subtitled or dubbed? Not really. Only if they mess with actual content do I care about a dub, or if the voice really misses the mark.

Has my taste in anime changed over the years? Absolutely! I started out as a fantasy-only type anime fan that branched out into science fiction and then rode the golden age of animation through it's peak years.

Now I'm not saying that all anime is solid gold, I'm just saying that I've seen alot of good anime and that is what I choose to remember about anime.

I love the fansub companies that bring us releases days after they are aired in japan. Hell, some anime never gets noticed in the US until word of mouth about these fansubs brings them to the attention of distributers over here. I'm more than willing to pay for an actual dvd of anime. I fully support the anime companies so long as they are not trying to crack down on honest fansub groups.

Anime is a great thing.

What's the anime in the last picture?
I'm sure I've seen it before when I was a child.
That's Spirited Away, a beautiful anime film. You can compare it with Alice in Wonderland mixed with old, Japanese folklore.

They're just cartoons with a different animation style, and alot of the time slightly odder or mature/serious plots, I don't see why people wouldn't or would only watch anime if you like cartoons.

I'm a Code Geass, Guren Lagann, Ghost in a Shell... essentially anything that makes me think, is off the wall, or has a gigantic chess match that makes me go "HOW THE...!?"

I've tried to watch anime multiple times, and sometimes I like the plots, but I just can't get over the art style, it drives me nuts for some reason. I think it's mostly because I'm used to either very toon-like or very realistic animation, and anime sits somewhere in the middle, thus driving my uncanny valley sense into overdrive.
Could you give an example of realistic animation? Most of the anime I've seen is much better animated than any western animation I've seen. There are some fairly realistic animes out there.

That's disputable. A lot of anime that gets exported from Japan then advertised is in that category, mainly because a lot of people still seem to think that animated = for kids. Which is wrong. Because about 10% of anime is that stuff called "hentai," so by your obervation that leaves just 5% for stuff like Serial Experiment: Lain, .hack//sign, Ghost in the Shell (Which I love), Mushi-Shi, Gasaraki, Straight-Jacket, Darker Than Black and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. But obviously titles liek these occupy more than 5% of anime.
Also, it's "anime" not "japanime." Unless you're in japan, anime means animation of the specific style/genre/whatever common to most is not all animation studios in japan.

I think the reason is the anime is a style of it's own. But even that's wrong, just look at all the styles grouped under animate, you'll see there are many different variations.
It's distinct from cartoons by the fact that is covers all genres, has many different variations and is also a major part of a culture.

It's basically cartoons directed at the older pupulation.
It used to be. Now it's aimed at 11 year-olds.

What happened to the days of Ninja Scroll, Macross Plus, Dominion Tank Police, Akira, etc?

So my answer is 'yes, I like old skool anime, before the internet ruined it.'

I really don't think I could care less about Anime... I've never 'gotten' why it's so popular, and I don't watch it, so I chose 'indifferent'. I really don't watch cartoons anymore or drink "chocolate milk"...

I like it every now and then. It's not my favourite medium, but I won't dismiss anime just because it's anime. But when I watch anime, I make sure it's a good one. Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop and Studio Ghibli's work are among my favourites.

What I specifically don't like about anime, is that typical anime crap: ridiculous exaggerated facial expressions, those flashy backgrounds when something happens, stupid motions and overreactions. No thanks, I'll stick to more mature anime.

I don't just hate it. I hate it with a furious passion. Why? I hate every bit of it, but mostly the art.

God, the ludicrous, ugly art.
FYI, not every anime uses the same kind of art. Far from it, actually. Anime can range from:

to

to

to

There's quite a bit of difference in anime styles.
Here is a couple more
