Some posters do go a little crazy with telling people to use the search function, but I mean, who wants to resurrect a thread that's over six months old? Plus, those that jumped on the poster for not using the search feature would be the same ones to complain that they posted in a really old thread.
They would only be angry if the poster put something annoying like "I agree!" or "This!" If the person went and posted something that contributed to the discussion, they wouldn't be so upset.

The only kinds of necros I find unacceptable are the News necroes: I even hallucinated that a thread had been necroed and jumped the gun in calling someone a necromancer because it sounded like a bit of old news that I had seen before.

That's what I get for staying up all night...

Well I have not been here long and I have not received any hostility. Hell, one of the very reasons I joined was because of these forums, most new guys are not shunned and yelled at because they did not join a year ago. Now when new people are dumb for the sake of being stupid and getting attention, they deserve the use of the word "noob." In my opinion of course.

Haha, best "other" option I've seen on here.

But yeah, there are both polite people and assholes, it all evens out in the end. As long as the newbs act fine they deserve to be treated fine, but if they beat a dead horse with their threads then unleash the Search! hounds.

By and large people treat the newcomers well, sometimes people will overreact to what can best be described as "newb mistakes",but the community is by and large fair

I think people here are mean to newcomers that start stupid threads or threads that have been done before... I for one don't feel like people has been mean to me.

But there haven't been any piñatas, confetti nor parties thrown to celebrate my arrival though... so I'll say it's just average treatment. :p

Hmmm?

I thought this site well receives new comers. I mean people with new post counts are usually given a flame retardant vest and allow to slide on mistakes.

Except of course if they are obviously trolling, then we...well, don't feed the trolls please.

They're the noobs of the forums, they must receive flak for it. It has been that way for decades and we can not simply break the way of the gamers.

I'm new as well, and so far haven't been on the receiving end of any meanness. It's pretty easy not to upset people as long as you read the forum rules and whatnot first. Of course, now that I've said this someone is probably going to be a jerk to me.

Also, this poll is confusing, the first two options both appear to indicate a "yes" to the question.
"No, Newbs deserve to be hated" - Seems to me like you're contradicting yourself.

A more appropriate wording for the question might be "Are we EXCESSIVELY mean to newcomers?"

So, I'm bland for not having an opinion to a trivial question on a gaming forum. k.
Doesn't matter that you're joking, it's just cliche and lame.

While I admit some newbs are just plain idiots, we have to be more open. I mean the Escapist has higher standards compared to most forums, and so we have to ease people in better. And with the community being as oppressive as it is no wonder we all have a reputation as a bunch of grammar nazis with ego problems.
It is a necessary evil to keep out the youtube crowd. Though this site is slipping, I have noticed an upwards trend of not capitalising sentences.
