Poll: Are we mean to newcomers?

We call people out on things. Well, most of us do. If you have some idiotic story, we want source. If your argument is made of straw, we light it on fire. Don't like it? Maybe this forum isn't for you. If we're tough, it's all love for the people we already have, and the way we want to keep this place. If it takes some tough love for this place to not turn into Gamespot or Yahoo! Answers, so be it. Word.

i dont know, i dont think anyone has been hating on me, and ive joined a little while ago, even though i was watching the videos for quite a while before i joined.

I think it really is sort of up to the user themselves to read rules and try to "blend in" as much as possible. I haven't encountered any mean people in my, what, two days here. All it takes is a little common sense.

Have you ever seen a thread made by a brand new user that is quickly met with criticism from the mods and other users. Comments such as..........

"This thread has been done a million times before!"
"Use the search bar!"

and

"Report and move on!"

..........are sadly some of the first comments newcomers receive from this site (note: I'm just as guilty as everyone who does this.) I remember when I first joined and made a thread, and how it was immediately shut down by a mod for being overdone. The fact of the matter is, everything in this life is going to be overdone sooner or later, so what's to keep a new user from making a Zombie Plan thread in hopes of being greeted by his/her new community.

I'm not saying there are those who AREN'T polite to newcomers (MaxTheReaper, you can gloat whenever you feel like it); in my opinion, "Welcome to The Escapist" should be the first thing a newcomer reads off this site.

But in the end, this thread is a question, not a rant (alright, it's kind of a rant), and that question is:

Do you think we are being too mean to newcomers?

Well, I have to say you guys were'nt too hostile to me, though maybe i earnt brownie points from my SS2 Avatar, not sure.
