Orionche, I don't buy it. It's making value judgements on an entire group of people, by saying they're a: too stupid to use protection, and b: go around giving HIV to all their friends. I'm in a committed polyamorous relationship with partners I know aren't infected with anything. I am -less- risk than the average heterosexual man/woman who does not get themselves frequently tested and screws with random people without using protection.

This is -directly- akin to saying black people can't donate blood because they are too savage and tribal to have safe sex.

I want to but I have just never gotten around to it. I don't think its a bad idea in anyway, its just that life keeps getting in the way.

I have a few times, then wasn't able to for a while, but now that I am I plan to start giving blood again. It's fun to watch the bag fill up, and I get free cookies!

Rare diseases make them not really want my blood. The chance of it being passed on is slim, but I'd really rather not take that chance.

i donate, because here they pay you for it ^_^
40 euro for plasma, 55 for full blood and more for some special tricks they pull. (that's around 50-65 USD for our colonist friends)

i even used to have two donator passes with different names, so i could go twice as often by donating during the mandatory breaks with a different identity xD
Where do you live?
Also, I can't donate because I had hepatitis. T-T

Too all the people who say they cannot give blood for Tatoos or Piercings, this is from the Red Cross website.

Q. Can I give blood if I have a tattoo or a body piercing?
A. If you?ve gotten a piercing in a licensed facility where sterile or single-use equipment was used, you CAN donate. There is no waiting/deferral period.

So there ya go, get out and give :)

And yes, I give also. As a O+ donor, 86% of the US population can use my blood.

I did it once, I haven't done it since. I really do hate IV's, it makes me feel like a cyborg or something. I don't like being hooked to things. Kudos to everyone that does donate, though. You are all doing a great thing.

Negatory. I tend to like to keep my own blood within myself plus I absolutely *hate* needles. Yes, it's probably considered selfish or something, but I help folks in others ways. General kindness and respect is something I strive for, but blood donating is something I just can't do.

Plus, while I am old enough, I'm probably either right there at the minimum weight requirement or just below it. I wouldn't quite know that for sure, however, since I've never bothered checking. I do know that I weigh not all that much.

I give as often as the clinics come around, which is only a few times a year. It doesn't bother me, and its not like my body doesn't replace what's lost.
