He's not saying it's wrong to like a pony because of fanon. He's saying that if you tell someone from outside of the fandom that you like a character like Derpy they will not understand your reasoning and assume you like her because she has Derp'd eyes.

The point I drove at was that yesterday, I was playing TF2, and someone said on the chat thingy they didn't get portal, why did people love the cube? A couple replied "They're retarded"(People like those I predicted for derpy, ones that were just outside the joke and assumed from it) and I said they don't really, it's just a joke.

Portal was released in 2007? It's been this long and some still don't get it.

I saw a few memes floating around about and decided to check it out, I found it to be enjoyable enough that i kept watching past the first few episodes and over time the series grew on me. I like the show for its humour and general storylines as well as the character development.

So yeah i'm a brony but i don't try and jump down peoples throats if they haven't seen or post macros or memes (unless its in a thread dedicated to MLP) I just simply enjoy the show and discuss it with other people who also enjoy the show.
