Nope. Watched one episode, don't see what the big deal is. I mean, it's OK, even for a kid's show, but it's not like Pixar-status or anything.

And this is coming from someone who watched the Avatar cartoon for the first time at the age of 18 and enjoyed it.

As for ponies...I honestly don't understand it. Even for the internet, this one is pretty....strange.

There's so many things out there which one could watch, so why this show?

Someone explained it really well, and I'll try to parahrase him; 'because they cared.' Lauren Faust was basically told to make something to sell more pony toys, but instead they put actual effort in behind it. The enthusiasm that went into making it is visible in everything, from the animation to the voice acting. They had to do so little, but instead they actually made something out of it; 4th wall breaking jokes, clever set-ups, it even has a dick joke! It shows that the creator has worked on The Powerpuff Girl and it shows that they cared, and for that I love it.

I respect your opinion sir, I also like that you actually tried it before you judged it. I am using as the paradigm for the opposition although I'm inferring from your post that you are just indifferent rather than opposing.

The Escapist has always had a pony fandom present since year dot. There is even a t-shirt in the shop with a pony warning. As for me? I need nice things occasionally and the internet is mostly content to let me have this one. Also the creators talk to us and love us back via deviantart and /co/[./semi stalker-ish].

Well, as much as my throat wants to turn outside out from the word, I do watch the show and enjoy it. Greatest show ever? No. Some of the frillier girlier bits make me grit my teeth, and I always feel like I need to cuss non-stop for a few minutes after discussing it with my...little...bronies

Yeah, it's meant for 10-year-old girls... so effing what? It's a solid show, and a wonderful example of effort and creativity in an increasingly stagnant sea of media slop. There are some pretty nice messages in there, too. I'm especially impressed with the whole "Cutie Mark Crusaders" subplot: it's a puberty allegory with the theme that it's okay to not grow up too fast, the exact opposite of what so many other shows (and ads, and people) are saying. With girls starting puberty earlier and earlier, it's an important and timely message.

(I've got a young niece, who's probably the closest thing I'll ever have to a daughter. I'm permitted to worry about this stuff.)

To be honest, I've been kind of purposely avoiding the show because I think I'd become a full-fledged "brony" if I did. The few short clips I've seen on Youtube suggests such an outcome for me.

I suppose my answer then is that I'm not a "brony" yet, though I probably will be.

Well, I finally broke down and watched the first 2 episodes, and I have determined 3 things.

1- It does have a certain mesmerizing effect.

2- Pinky Pie is mentally damaged.

I hate to admit to this, really I do. But, yes, I like this show, quite a bit...

I can't help it, the animation is great, the characters simply make the show, and the number of references etc. keep me laughing more than I probably should. Never-mind that the voice acting is spot on.
