Both really... I like animals in general, and after having several dogs and cats, I've no real preference. They are very different creatures.

CATDOG!

Cats win. Ever heard of LOLDOGZ? No? Because dogs aint funny!
Dogs are needy, attention starved pieces of shit.
Cats on the other hand are pure awesome. They are better than people. They enslaved the Egyptians and still control most of the world today only people don't realise it.
Dogs on the other hand are nothing more than tool no more awesome than a screw driver or a wrench except 1000 times more annoying, messey and smelly.

I like dogs, I own a dog, I've owned other dogs that have passed for various reasons, but I'm more of a cat person. I like how laid back they are. And my dear Taira sleeps curled against my chest. My 100 poundish dog could not do that...though she would probably want to if given the chance.

I'm a cat person. I don't mind being around dogs, but I would never want to own one. They are big, expensive, high-maintenance, stinky, stupid, and loud. At least you don't have to walk a cat twice a day in the rain, sleet, or snow or entertain it constantly.
Cats are stinky and can be very loud (depends on the personality, similarly to dogs). Dogs are, on average, smarter than cats, though it varies greatly from breed to breed. I've had a couple of border collies. They're so intelligent it's almost shocking. Much more intelligent than my cat (who is fairly impressive herself).

I like dogs more because my family has always had dogs but I prefer to have no animals, sure they can give you some kind of love and sense of responsibility but I prefer to not have the chore of taking care of an animal.

I've lived with both cats and Dogs, and I prefer all animals. That being said, cats come out on top by a margin. And think on this- a Dpg looks up to you because you are his pack leader- not out of true affection. (and if you aren't the Alpha, you are going to have problems with the dog, generally- if he sees himself as higher than his owner in the pack hierarchy? That's a recipe for trouble.

On the other hand, Cats have no pack hierarchy of any type. If they are spending time with you and showing affection- it's really love. Cats don't need to suck up to a pack leader like dogs do, so when they show affection and wanting to be with you, I think it's more "pure" in emotion.

Id say that depends enitrely on the dog (and breed), if its a small dog then thats a non-issue (plus small doesnt always mean "yappy/fits in a handbag") we've had small dogs and they ahve been awsome (you know, the kinf with an actual snout and pointy ears)

we've had alot of dogs in the past (farm) and hey have been fine around me when I was a kid, and other kids and people in general

now granted some dogs are just weird, like our current dog LOVES my dad and is the most loving intellignt dog ever but has an issue with kids, its just weird that way

I dont see how the "love" from a cat is anymore "real" than from a dog, not all dogs are the same....and why is it any less?

though Im not arguing whcih is better, thats pointless

I'm really not a huge fan of pets in general, but if forced to choose I would take a dog. Dogs can be trained to perform tasks. Hunting, looking for dead bodies, guarding the house. Cats can't be relied on for anything. The only thing you can rely on cats for is them mewing uncontrollably at 6:00 AM wanting be let out of the house. They're just eating/shitting factories with no benefits. They're fickle, demanding creatures that provide no benefit. Dogs will eat their own, or other animals shit, and or roll around in it, and then lick your face. But at least they can serve a purpose. Cats are pets for the sake of being pets, dogs are pets because they serve their master and can be trained for useful purposes, so I'd take the dog.

In the end, I'd take dog because they're more loyal. A cat will start eating your dead corpse the same day you died. A dog locked in the house will probably wait at least a weak.

HA! It was tied, 44 dogs 44 cats, until I pushed dogs to 45 :D

But yeah, dogs all the way. Which is funny, because I'm typing this with a cat on my lap...Dang creature keeps trying to eat my headphones...

Cats, obviously. Almost all breeds of dog are either just plain ugly, really stupid, really annoying, or all three.

Cats on the other hand are awesome. They are always plotting something...

But kitteh still wants a hug!

I go for cats. I have both a cat and a dog and enjoy both of them, but I like the low maintainence relationships you can have with cats. I looked after my brother's sulphur crested cockatoo for a year and learned I quite prefer a less dependant animal. Plus cats bury their turds in the back yard.

Dogs, they do more...can't take my cat for a run, well hypothetically speaking as I do not own a cat, but I can sure as hell take my dog for a run

I don't hate cats or anything, but I don't understand how anyone could like cats more then dogs. Dogs are better in every conceivable way.

God, I miss having a dog....
You, sir, constructed this post with the utmost amount of facts possible and I respect you for adhering to only the facts, and not allowing opinions to grace the words that you have typed. *snerk*
Yes, I like dogs. That's my personal opinion on the matter.(Which, by the way, was already implied before you pointed it out) I will offer no facts or arguments to back that opinion up. Care to explain why there's something wrong with that?

I seriously couldn't pick if my life depended on it.
I love dogs for their loyalty and playful nature. And I love cats for their companionship and character.
