First, thank you for your post.DemonGuy792 said:No I'm not a furry. I know a few, mind, and get on well with them, since I'm a fellow anime nut, and quite a few of the furries I know are anime-mad as well, which sums up how I know them.
The whole furry subculture has never really attracted me, to be honest, although I admit that, for a long time, I assumed that being a furry was reserved for fursuiters, which is one of the reasons I was put off.
Still, like I say, I have a few friends who fursuit, and that, coupled with my general open-mindedness, has made me accepting of furries.
Also, I feel very sad that some of the first few posts of this thread were just hate.
Yes, the first few posts were short winded, but I would not attribute that to a crassness, or distaste so much as the difficulty of starting out a thread of this sort without asking some rather difficult questions.
I asked a question and they answered it. I cannot ask any more of them.
The impression of fursuiters being the majority is, as you mentioned, wrong. I do not mean to delineate the fandom, but I will cite a prominent member of the fandom, 2-gryphon, when saying that they compose roughly 10%.
The CSI episode did little to help the public image of furries, but it could have been far worse. Originally, they had written the script without consultation and its content was far more eccentric and prone to displays of proclivity. They consulted with a member of the fandom producing a somewhat moderated version (though still wholly nonrepresentational).
It can be seen why there is some misunderstanding, and arms-length mentality to the issue. I did not start this thread to solve that, but I do believe that calm and intelligent replies will do some good regardless.
