Ive been thinking lately about something my dumb ass, spoiled brat cousin said the last time i saw him, what he said was this "only 1% of the worlds population are vegetarians" (hes not actually smart enough to use those big words, its just how id have said it). Obviously this is a load of crap hes just pulled out of thin air for no obvious reason, but it got me wondering, just what is the veggie to non-veggie ratio?

edit: there! i added an option for bloody so called "semi-veggies" happy now?

(oh and if your reading this gunjack65, yes, well done, you knew it was me :p)
Sorry to say this, but judging from the poll results so far (41 Vegetarians to 220 Carnovores), your brother's pretty astute.

Oh, and OP, you'll find that this forum is very biased against vegetarianism, we've had quite some er... "scandals" involving threads about vegetarianism.
well it shouldnt be, i am a veggie
A lot of people are annoyed or anti-vegetarian because many moral vegetarians (Not all, not even the majority, but quite a few) like to rub their moral superiority in meat eaters face. They tell us that we're evil, inhuman devils who should grease the gears of hell with our blood.

Now, why wouldn't we like people like that?

Personally, I don't mind vegetarians (Though I don't fully understand some of tghe reasoning behind it). But when one starts preaching... well, sometimes I can't help myself.
hey i gave up on converting you condemned little (not gonna say the next word in case im put on probation again) a while ago, as for the reasoning, its cos your ending another life for the purposes of dinner! reason enough for ya?
Okay you say you eat eggs so how is it different for you to take a chickens eggs than say a chicken taking a womans egg or fetus or something and cooking it up?

I've been a vegetarian for over a year now. I'm not doing it out of some misguided moral crusade (actually, those PETA fuckwits need to go kill themselves), but for reasons that are a bit too complicated to write down. Rest assured, I am it quite excellent health, better than I was when I ate meat.
But some facts: a vegetarian diet is by far the most healthy (going by numbers for obesity and mortality), high intake of red meats increases colon cancer risk (CDC), and plant farming is better than animal farms for the environment (in terms of CO2, but who actually cares?)

Meat is too good to give up. Oh, and this may inadvertently start a flame war or four over the "Killing animals is wrong vs It was the way god intended us to eat" argument.

...Dang, now I need to eat some meat.

No, I couldn't live without fish, or beef, or pork, or deer, or poultry.

Plus, all the vegetarians I know of, are all up their asses about it. Just because I ate something that had a face, doesn't make you any better than me.

Plus if you're not careful you lose out on the proteins and other valuable nutrients that you get mostly from meat. Suck on that hippies.!

Next time you see him, mention human's canine teeth, and how we produce amino acids specifically designed to break down animal proteins.
See what he has to think about that.

I'm not vegetarian.

But I'm not going to argue that being a vegetarian isn't healthy. Being one is actually healthier if done right (i.e. not living off of poptarts and cereal). There's actually proof that having little meat in your diet can drastically improve your health and life expectancy: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/7250675.stm

People in Okinawa, Japan tend to include little meat in their diet and lots of fruits and vegetables, and lots of tofu and soya.

I don't necessarily feel morally wrong for eating animals, what I don't like is the harsh and terrible conditions many of them are put under. A percentage of American beef is actually cow-fed, as in the cows are fed other cows, which I find disgusting. And it makes their meat much less healthy then grass fed, or even corn fed (even though corn-fed isn't good either, makes the meat much more fattening). If the way animals are raised for food isn't a moral issue for you, you can't deny that it's a health issue.

I don't think I would ever become a vegetarian, but I could see myself narrowing down the amount of meat in my diet, especially cutting down on the beef. And pushing toward more organic food in general.

I honestly think the only reason to be vegetarian is to protest the big corporte factory farms in this fucking world. I'm perfectly fine with that but its the vegetarians who wont eat mammals because they have faces. Basically I hate the fucking peta vegetarins but I guess who doesn't. Just as an example I have two friends. Friend A and Friend B are both "vegetarians." A is an vegetarian because he disaproves of factory farms and B is a vegetarians because he just followed A when we were kids. I ask them both "If I went in to the forest and killed a deer humanly and quickly would you eat it?" A says probably, he would prefer some kind of vegetable because thats what his stomach is used to. B sayed no, because he sayed "What, you think your all manly venturing into the woods just to kill a cute defenseless deer?" I offered them an alternative, an octopus that of which I caught by spearing it and tentacle and spent a month endlessly torturing it. A sayed deer, B sayed octopus. I asked why he sayed "Dude I dont give a shit about a fucking octopus theres a million of them, they can go burn in hell." That comment made me hate the world

Wow i just typed a paragraphy about how much I hate hypocritical vegetarians. I need to stop posting.

I couldn't be a vegetarian. I had a girlfriend a few years back who didnt eat : Animal products of any kind, yeast products, gluten or mushrooms. God that was hard work, being a chef i was doing all the cooking...
I don't see the point.

I can understand if you don't like certain animals just as you might not like certain vegetables or fruits. But I cant see reason in dismissing ALL animals and the bi-products unless you have tried them all. Which I seriously doubt anyone has.
