Poll: Are you angry at the escapist for canceling Unforgotten realms?

Oh well. I guess I'll have to keep it alive by screaming 'Let's Plan C this *****!' at the top of my voice in crowded shopping centres before running away as fast as I can (okay, it was a dare, but it was hilariously fun).

Watched a couple of episodes in the first season, didn't care for it and all the people who thought I was crazy for not liking it, now I am pleased :d. No offense meant for the creator, I just didn't like the humor style.

Now the escapist has decided in their 'infinite wisdom' to cancel it and leave the fate of the show hanging in the balance! Even though I really liked it and started to watch all episodes.

I tried watching it once, but the voice acting grated on my ears, and the initial impression it gave me was a bit juvenile. It was mostly high-pitched yelling, snorting and silly names. I won't say that's a fair judgement for the entire series, though, since I never really gave it an honest chance (voice acting).

And, uh... Is anyone else than me wondering why, exactly, he needs money in order to continue making something that seems to be a garage-variety animation? He basically needs a computer, an internet connection and a microphone, from what I've seen of it. And since he's made 46 episodes, he obviously has those things already.

Who knows, maybe one day Yahtzee will lose his luster and will be dropped for a newer, funnier show.

The day that happens would be the day The Escapist will lose about 75% (if not all) of it's users. I'm pretty sure the reason a good number of people are here is because of ZP.

I don't think we'll lose many users over ZP. We'll lose some occasional members, sure, but I doubt we'll see any less activity here on the forums.

Yahtzee sort of draws new users in, and the forums keep 'em coming back for more.

While this may be true, remember the escapist is a business. It's not forum posts don't keep the doors open, it's the ad dollars. Less users means less ads clicked and less merch bought means less shows, articles, and eventually closing of the site.

Anywho: You are certainly correct. While ZP does have a huge influence/popularity on here, I still don't think losing him will cause the entire world to spiral into a sweat-induced panic. Sure, some coin will most likely be lost, but I doubt the populace will decrease all that much.

And it's not like the Escapist will be no more afterwards. I highly doubt they would put all of their eggs in one basket like that.

And let's not forget ZP has a huge fanbase, so it probably won't stop for quite some time. We have nothing to worry about.

Agreed. I wasn't trying to prophesize the end times, nor am I really worried about them occuring next week. Just merely throwing my two cents into the ring because it seemed likethe two sides of the argument were "the community was built off ZP videos" or "the community is built off forum posts", when it's actually a complex mixture of all and more of these things!

I don't know if someone already told you this, but I'm not going to waste my time looking through the whole thread. Do you, in your 'infinite wisdom' now anything about why your favorite show got "cancelled"?

It's because they don't have enough resources and money to continue the show. The Escapist didn't cancel it, the guy who makes UR just doesn't have enough money. You can also help that by buying the DVD, which I am guessing you haven't done, despite your apparent overwhelming love for the videos.

yes i did know that, but as far as i know the dvd is not yet on sale, and i was planning to buy it as soon as there is a link or anything telling me where i can buy it from. but from the Urealms website i was under the impression that it wasnt that he ran out of money, that is was that the escapist was no longer able to fund him, and he is using the dvd to acquire funds to continue the series, which is why i will be buying the dvd!

technically its not moving away from this because it's canceled

No its been cancelled temporarily, and will no longer be on the escapist when it restarts, but if the DVD sales are not high enough it will not restart at all

what was it about?

It sounds kinda MMOish. if it was a show about MMOs then im upset. Cause i woulda liked to watch that. Right now the only MMO show i get to watch is http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/tag/3321/The_MMO_Report.html and it only comes out every 2 weeks or so.

I cant really explain it, but have a look at the back catalogue and watch the first few episodes to see if you like it, and thanks for the link i really liked it
