I must say it does seem like my generation has forgotten a little thing called a 'story' somewhat - I am always criticized for liking games due to their actual worth and fun as opposed to their graphics, and how much gore is in them...

I do own a Wii, and to everyone who hates it I have one word: Okami

Not really. Its entertainment, not heart surgery, we don't need to be so strict about how people do it or anything or act or whatever.

I'm disappointed in every aspect of this generation, but you shouldn't read too much into this because I am disappointed in every aspect of every generation of this world. There's not a single generation in the entire history of the world that truly lived up to its potential.

I'm most disappointed at the hype and pre marketing the companies does for a game than the game themselves, the technology is really great, but the gaming experience lacks of fun, it's like making a choose your own adventure book with Shakespeare...
I want more mindless fun!

I also own a Wii, and I play it quite a lot, but I have a couple words for you:

It's a PS2 re-release.

I'm just annoyed at Current Gen parents. "Wah my kid is playing a video game to violent for them, they should be banned" Noooo that game is for 17 plus kids that can deal with that, you bought it for them, the ESRB do a fine job telling you it's violent, so stop complaining. I mean it's okay that gamers think they are smart and funny when they T bag you, but a quick shot to the face learns they up good for next time

I think the problem is kids nowadays and also many adults get to defensive of their console choice, much like back in the Nintendo/Sega days of the past, but now it's more like they need to prove to not just the world and comunity their console choice was good but the best. Now I've gone from NES to SNES to Sega Megadrive to N64 to Dreamcast to PS1 to Game Cube to PS2 to X-Box and finaly X-Box 360, I'm not going to justify my choice, I'm not going to defend it. In the end I had the choice PS3 or 360 and I chose the one that appealed to me more as I had more poeple I knew with one, I'd like a PS3 but not going to gobash on it as I'm a 360 owner.

Also when it comes to games and people getting all offensive and calling you things that I did'nt even know were physicaly possiable let alone legal outside of Bangkok. I blame that on lack of single player games and the modern world, when I was but knee high to a grasshopper and took my first tentative steps into the world of video games, I either had a buddy round and a good time or played on my own and had a good time, but I did'nt have anyone to blame or anyone to listen to my vuew or oppinions but fast forward to the modern age where kids are going straight onto the PS3 or 360, they've been basicly told from a young age they're all special little snow flakes who's oppinions and views are all valid and importent. Even if they get them across in a string of insult, curses and refrances to sexual acts that would make the Marquis de Sade blush. This new wave of gamers needs to chill out, enjoy some game and get something for that ADHD so we normal well adjusted people can enjoy being online with games. Instead of wishing we could channel our hate into a guided missle to blow up these little punks brain with undiluted fury.

I guess I would have had to have aspirations for this generation of gamers to be disappointed by them. But no, frankly I don't care. If you want to curse and act a fool on MW2 online or whatever you're into, no sweat off my back, I don't play those games online cos fools are annoying. But fools have always been annoying, so no big difference there. We just have online interaction with headsets now.

So no, not disappointed. Just annoyed.

I think you have to realize that the "casual" gamer is really nothing more than a "hardcore" gamer from 7 years ago.

In the late-90s the biggest selling games where Deer Hunter games that were glorified Oregon Trail hunting sessions.

Then in the early 2000s Halo was the biggest thing in the world which was a simple Quake-style shoot-em-up with modern graphics and a thin storyline.

In the mid-2000s the biggest game became World of Warcraft, a game that was a reimagining of the 5-year's-previous Everquest.

Now in the 2010s the casual crowd loves Modern Warfare 2, a game with beautiful graphics and a great set-piece sequences and a mindless multiplayer mode (Half-Life 2/Counter Strike: Source anyone?).

Hardcore gamers are always frustrated with the casual crowd because the casual crowd are late-commers. They get into things that we've played a dozen times and become bored with.

That'll never change, that's just the way technology adoption works. I have two aquaintainces that teased me about playing that nerdy Half Life game in highschool who now are World of Warcraft addicts. When you're surfing on the leading edge of technology you have to be comfortable knowing the rest of the world is in the shallow end.

A great PS2 game that was ;)

I don't own a Wii but have not the hate that many seem to have for it. People just like to pick on the most popular thing around. I enjoy FF but that gets a lot of hate around here.
Look up two posts, and you'll see a Ninja at work :D

also: just ran a quick game of Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom on my Wii.

Yatterman-1 killed me. I need to spend more time learning to play, instead of having a rough idea. I'm the worst ever, because I know enough that I'm not button mashing, which makes me a bit more predictable, but I don't know enough that I'm actually any good. I'm the same in all games of the genre.

What? Hm, judging by your grammar and sentence structure, it looks like you need to put down your game pad and do your homework. I don't think many parents are talking about banning games (that was more of a pre-ESRB thing). And the ones who don't allow their kids to play M rated games are doing what they should be doing: parenting.
*sigh* Sorry it was blanket statement I know. I'm still a little mad at how these things get blown out of proportion. I mean, you've seen it right? Like that frumpy mom that the escapist wrote about not long ago. The one that thought games were from the devil.
