Why does everyone on this thread suddenly ask why there is a poll for this? No other poll seems to need justification for itself. Perhaps the OP wanted to know if a disproportionate amount of gay people were on the escapist, (The usual is about 10% and the escapist seems to have 5%+ 5% Bi)

Anyway, on topic; straight, male, not that it really matters as I can't be bothered with dating

A crossdresser doesn't (necessarily) suck dick, and therefore not gay. A bisexual does, and therefore should be considered gay, in a poll like this.

I don't think that quote is valid, it marks him rather more as an ignoramous than as having a valid, balanced opinion. To be blunt - you can enjoy 'sucking dick' as much as 'munching rug'. Why don't you try it? Be more open minded.

I qualify that by saying being open minded is not the same as being mindlessly open.

I don't think there's an issue with any potential underepresentation of gays/lesbians in games for the reason that I'm sure has already been mentioned, that being that it would more than likely not affect or influence the game itself in any way (for all we know, the DOOM Marine, Soap from CoD4 or even Samus Aran could all be homosexuals, it still wouldn;t make any difference to the game itself).

If we were to have a 'quota' for gay characters then we would probably see gay men and lesbian women being thrown into the mix (we've just about begun to see the end of the 'token black guy' trend only to move onto the 'token gay guy').

I doubt it, the Escapist is generally pretty tolerant. Other threads like this have gotten away with either very little or absolutely no homophobia, after all.

For the record, I'm male and completely straight, although I'll admit to a bit of bi-curiosity when I was slightly younger. Straight now though.

I do not think that gays should be represented in an equal amount of characters as straight people, because they are less gays then straight people. How many % of the world pop are gay? It should be like this: So much % gay characters in video games as they are gay people on earth in %.

EDIT: Ok, that's bullshit, they should be as much gay people in games as the developer wants, because if we consider a minimum gay count, we have to consider a minimum count for all minorities.

I've got no idea about whether or not gay people are equally represented amongst gamers.

I think theres enough gay people/characters in games,just like I think theres enough straight people in games.
I couldn't care less whether the guy/girl i controll in the game likes guys or girls, as long as they like swords or guns or hurls fireballs or something.

name five gay game characters. I don't mean metro or flamboyant, i mean homosexual.

My whole point was that i don't care whether the caracter is gay bi or straight, their sexuallity hardly ever has any effect on the game, so i'm indifferent.

Most of the games i've played, no more hereos aside, could possibly have been with gay caracters. But since their sexuallity wasn't ever a part of the game no-one will ever know for sure (rule 34 doesn't count)

Unless the caracter says/hints that he/she likes chicks/dudes, lost a wife/husband, or actually sleeps with someone, kisses them or whatever you cannot say they're straight or gay. For the sake of the game they're non-sexual.

Is link straight? is he gay? no-one knows cause all he cares about is swinging his awesome weapons around.
Same example applies to lots of other caracters in games.
