Yep i'm male and gay, and I've loved playing video games since I was a kid. But I'm not the stereotype flaming homosexual, just a normal guy that happens to like other guys.

Personally I do think that the homosexual community is not shown enough in video games, but I understand the hesititation to put us in, because if you characterise the gay character the wrong way you could bring about quite alot of ire from the community, and it's hard to point out that someone is gay without making them overly camp, and making it not obvious would bring about lots of confusion to the players when the secret is eventually told.

By the way, the low amoung of people saying yes in the poll could be because some men and women are not comfortable outing themselves online for all to see.

Well, so far so good. I half expected some homophobes to start ranting about now. It's a good thing to be in a forum with civilized people :)

All and all, I think gay people are doing us a favor, by not flooding the world with more and more babies (sorry if I offend anyone, but you have to agree, 6 billion is a very BIG number!).

I reason like this: everyone is bisexual... They just don't know it yet.

This, but for real I am a bit bi-curious. :3
Are you confused? This is confusing you right now, isn't it?

Underpants ARE CONFUSING YOU!!

A crossdresser doesn't (necessarily) suck dick, and therefore not gay. A bisexual does, and therefore should be considered gay, in a poll like this.
I don't think that quote is valid, it marks him rather more as an ignoramous than as having a valid, balanced opinion. To be blunt - you can enjoy 'sucking dick' as much as 'munching rug'. Why don't you try it? Be more open minded.

I qualify that by saying being open minded is not the same as being mindlessly open.
I know he's ignorant.
That's why I said I don't think he realized how profound that statement is.
My point is that (even if you prefer to munch rug) if you're a man and like to put man-meat in your mouth, that makes you gay. I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with that or that you can't like women too but that is a gay thing to do.
It's like saying you're a non-smoker even if you only occasionally have a cigarette. You may not buy a pack a day but if you still smoke, you're still a smoker.

You do know that one doesn't necessarily have to be gay to be open minded.
I take your point but then would you consider the reverse to be true?
If a 'gay' person decided that lady flesh was occasionally desirable would that make him straight? (or lesbian v.v.)

No criticism of you but you seem to see a world in purely 'black and white' with no grey areas whereas that is the sole domain in which the majority of humanity feels comortable. The need to label people as either 'gay' or 'lesbian' or 'whatever' seems unnecessary, merely an advertisement to like minded people (like KFC or a particular football team) to whom those who are not fans seem to feel some obligation to hate.
For example, assuming you are a 'straight' male, does it really offend you to say "No" to a gay guy in a club any more than it may offend you to say "no" to an 'ugly' girl? ('ugly' being a subjective opinion and presuming you don't chase them for this example)
As a lifelong NYer, I live in a city with many shades of grey; it's language that sometimes (as you pointed out yourself) doesn't allow the gray.
However, as a NYer, I have had to turn down advances from man or two but none of those advances have ever been so obtuse to offend me in any way. Then again, I am very polite.

And yes if a gay person decides they like carpet munching TOO, they're still gay. It's not a matter of black and white, it's a matter of logic: some things are either truth or false: "you either suck dick, or you do not suck dick." it's this (not the word people use) which dictates homosexuality.

Let me put it this way. Lets say you had a hetero' friend who wants to settle down with someone for the long haul, would you even consider setting them up with someone you would consider a bisexual? If I liked to munch the carpet and the column, I could never settle down. Damn, it was hard enough to find a good carpet.
Haha - yes very good! Homosexuality (perhaps a stereotype associated with the word) indicates you like men (or v.v.) and only men. It precludes any 'cross border relations' thus it would be a matter of subjective opinion wheteher the result of any union was considered Mexican or American or a true blending of both (not strictly referring to children here, trying to be slightly more abstract!).

It is a label, moreover a pejorative label that daemonises 'non-straight' people. I posit that labels are good for cataloguing until there are ambiguities.

Can we agree then that these labels (gay, lesbian, straight) are largely subjective and ultimately irrelevant in enlightened society where their use is that of a pejorative nature, retricting acces to jobs through prejudice etc.?

I respect and agree with what you're saying but it's only by decriminalising the inoffensive (often unintentional) depiction of queers, trannys, bi's, blacks, 'paki's[stanis] etc (groups currently 'discussed' in the UK) that we really promote a harmonious society. Sure, a certain amount of censorship is preferable - statements such as 'all gays should burn' are unhelpful and deconstructive, but desensitising us to racial or religious or sexual cusswords is probably the next step forward in human societal evolution, anything else would be erm unpleasant... like having a new chancellor...

I ask anyone who might have seen my previous post to disregard it and come to their own conclusions:

Romance in video games is often very poorly handled.
Right, sorry. ;) Only exception I can think of might be Grim Fandango. Otherwise friendship and romance seems laughable and strained. Hm. Not that I'm saying this suggests something about game- developers or anything. Did I just say that, I mean.. *cough*.

well, acording to the kensey scale [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinsey_scale] i'm a 0, wich means straight. I remember listening in the radio that there are scales that have drastically wider range of sexuality than this one.

Am I gay? Yes, I am very happy, since I just got some new video games. I'll pick my answer as "I'm a man and yes."

If you're asking if I am homosexual, then I am not. But since you're asking if I am happy, sure, why not say yes?
