My one and only concern with digital distribution is this: Servers

When the server with your data goes down, your screwed if you have to redownload. And with how often i have to reformat my computer, or delete demo's and full games off my ps3, it's worth it for me to have hard copies.

Sure, there's some games i can't have hard copies of (I'm looking at you Pain), but those cost me what, $10? Those ones, i could care less if they go poof. They're great and all, but they're also not a dent in the wallet. Full game, at $60+, I'm going to need a hard copy so that when they do move on to the next generation and eventually kill my old game lineup's servers, I don't lose my games should something happen to my harddrives

Nope. With few exceptions -- GoG.com, assuming they keep their low prices and No DRM policies after they "reboot" -- digital distribution is a non-starter for me. After all the crap they've all pulled the past few years, I simply do not trust game distributors nearly enough to take their word on anything.

Well I don't mind having no physical copy of my music, so why any difference with my games?

I hope disc-based games never disappears. I like having a big shelf of game cases to ogle while I decide what to play.

I only buy hard copies for games because the xbl store is shit. Since I'm mainly a PC gamer I hardly ever buy physical copies any more, unless I happen to see a really decent deal in store.

I already download virtually all my games.

Indeed the only game I've paid for in the past year is Halo: Reach.
Let's burn this one at the stake.

They only asked console gamers, according to the article. Herp, derp.
Hear hear.

How retarded would you have to be to not want digital downloads? It saves money off production and distribution, and more importantly, saves space in your home.
Excuse me for a second while I try to figure out how to use this keyboard because I'm retarded...

Let's see:
-Owning a physical copy
-Having the game box
-The manual and artwork
-COLLECTOR'S EDITIONS!
-The space taken by a couple hundred games is ONE shelf of a cupboard, not exactly a huge area
-Steam Australia is sometimes good, but most of the time it's still shafting us. Case in point, Modern Warfare 2 is currently priced at $89.99 US. Fuck you Steam.

Ill bring up a point the article made. What if your hard drive crashes? what if a power surge wipes your data? Then what, if they mark you down as someone who bought it and just let you re download that's good, BUT it will take HOURS to download full game data plus your going to have to restart the whole game over again. Granted CDs dont save your data but at least you dont have to wait to play your game you can put it in an get back to work. Plus the concept of having an all download gaming system has been tried before... and it FAILED miserably, it pushed its release date 20 times or something and it still never was released. Ill keep my CDs and my CD consoles thank you.
OH YEAH, plus having it all digital would probably make it easier for Torrent files to be made of the games thus crippling the industry with its own scientific advancments.

It doesn't NEED improvement in its current best form (Steam), but improvements are always nice.

No not yet. A friend and me were discussing trading games today, and I realized most of the ones I wanted to trade were on Steam, and I'm not giving him my account password. I want to be able to copy my digital games on discs and use them just like retail copies.

I like my gems on disk and newer games that I can buy cheap off steam (I only have 4)

It's good for old games that are out of print, giving me the option to legally obtain a copy at a reasonable price, but I don't trust it enough yet to give up my hard copy.

i like disks because it takes a lot of memory to install a game to the internal hard drive. With downloadable games I have to download the WHOLE game. With the disk all I need saved are the system file and the save data. If I had 2 terabytes of hard drive on my PS3 that would be different, but I'm stuck with 250GB right now.
