My mom is hopeless with games, but I can't really picture her playing them much anyway (unless it was a board-game video-game, like Monopoly or Wheel of Fortune on an old console or something).

Dad's an interesting case. He loves playing sports games on any system, and can really wrap his head around the mechanics and work miracles when he's playing. He once threw into quadruple coverage when playing against me in ESPN NFL 2K5. The ball barely brushed his receiver's fingertips, and he immediately threw off all the defenders and shot off like a rocket towards the end zone to make the touchdown. I think my overall record in that game against him is something like 40-5.

However, you put any other game in his hands, and he's worse than a blind cripple on greased-up ice. He even fails at the old Sonic game son the Genesis.

My mother plays some casual games sometimes, tetris, hocus-pocus (there's an obscure reference) recently she downloaded angry birds. My dad though, not at all.
Hey I remember Hocus-Pocus! WOW! It's been so many years since I've ever thought about that game.

Dad - PC Gamer. Used to play games like TF2 and Half life 24/7.

Mum - Only been interested in an old PSX she found on Ebay, bery vaguely though.

EDIT : I just found out my Mum used to play a bunch of 2-D figter's when she was a kid, with the occasional 'Doom Clone' As they were called back then.

They used to play Pong and Circus Atari back in the day, but as soon as they got adult jobs and started popping out kids, most of that stopped. So I'd label them as extremely casual.

I however am stuck at the opposite end of the spectrum, and that hasn't changed since becoming an adult. If anything I've gotten worse, what with disposable income and all...

My dad is the sole person responsible for me being a "gamer" (Yeah Croshaw, I know you hate the term) - but given the fact that he rather wanted me to be a footballer, which sounds like some sadistic martial arts-routine more than a somewhat civilized sport, I`d say I got the better end of the deal. Sure, I haven`t married a couple of supermodels, all the time while looking like a transsexual hobbit, but at least I`ve saved the world a few times over during the years spent in front of the tv.
And old dad never cared nothing, until I brought home Call of Duty: The big red one. After watching me struggle through the D-day sequence, he actually got interested - in a "this doesn`t seem like TriCell to me"-kinda way, and actually tried it. And failed. But had a blast doing so, while coming to the conclusion: If only he understood the controller, he`d kick some serious nazi-buttocks.
So fast forward a bunch of years and enter the Wii. Now, him being a granddad and all, this is actually the arena where he and my nephews are bonding besides Lego and RL-football. Watching him and the cool little buggers that they both are duking it out in the bowling alley, ski jump etc...is just a big Deja Vu for me - back to the days when me and him played the ZX Spectrum together. Killing aliens in Jetpac, exploring the world of Valhalla, and hating Manic Miner in equal measures.

Mum? Died 2 years ago, but without a doubt - could name and sing the themes to SMB and Bubble Bobble without thinking about it. To her, it was just a thing where she saw I was enjoying myself without getting in danger. Every once in a while, it was the old "please go outside a bit more" but combined with the fact that outside = skateboarding (in the only land afaik that outlawed said sport) she seemed content that I saved the world on a regular basis, from the safe confines of our basement.
Knowing mum, she`d be an Angry Bird-gamer for sure.

My father used to play MDK, Carmagedon, PoP, Tomb Raider and most importantly, deathmatch in Quake 3: Arena :D

He was in fact so good, that me and my brother must have teamed on him to get him down :D

My dad plays lots of PC strategy games, and occasionally I'll play against him in a halo game.

My dad used to play Mario with my brother and me back in the day. Occasionally he'd pick up a flight simulator too. But his favorite game was Goldeneye, which he called "the shooting game". Before I was born he had an Atari and a Colecovision, but I don't remember him ever playing them. Aside from those though he didn't really care for games, still great memories though.

My Dad used to play the original Super Mario Bros. with my older sister before I was born. And we used to play Mario Kart 64 and Wii Sports together as well.

Now-a-days, he usually plays games on his iPhone (I think it's an iPhone)And only to pass the time.

As for my Mom, the only game I think she ever really played to a certain degree is the original Space Invaders, in which she claimed to have gotten the high score one time.

They aren't interested, never touched 'em.

My dad was the one who got me into gaming.
He used to use flight simulators, golfing games, and he had quite a few star wars games.
He also showed me Doom when I was 11. I've played it ever since in his memory.
My mom, is a different matter. She's done the Wii, and about a month ago she tried LittleBigPlanet and Black Ops, but hasn't really touched them since.

My mom plays some casual games and some for the Wii (almost the same thing sometimes) every now and then. As for my dad, he loves old school point-and-click adventures like Myst. Also Freecell and his baseball stat simulator. <- He LOVES the baseball simulator and manages most of the time to play along with the season as it happens IRL.

My dad introduced me to gaming with the old Apogee side scrollers. He's also the one who bought Serious Sam which was my first love in the shooter genre. Nowadays he mostly plays casual games cause the modern games give him motion sickness.

My dad plays Gran Turismo 5, FFXIII, and Tekken 6 (I forgot what number they're on). My mother on the other hand dislikes the idea of spending time playing video games.

When my parents play a game, they tend towards casual games. My mom is a master at Free Cell, and my dad has played computerized chess since they had chess on computers.

But they do have their moments. My dad has a t-shirt that reads "I got the babel fish [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hitchhiker's_Guide_to_the_Galaxy_(computer_game)#Notes]". So there is that.
