I've never heard of it before (female).

EDIT: I just looked at what it really was. I'm not offended by it but I do think it's pretty funny. I mean, that exists? I guess it's not that different from a regular dating site. I do, however, find it sad that so many people are using it that the thing actually crashed. :/ That part worries me a little bit. Otherwise, it's funny. xD

Here is a counter question, what about being a gamer makes you somehow special enough that you would never pay for female attention.

Anybody care to explain what about being a gamer makes them above paying on a date site?
If anything, it's because gamers should be tech-savvy enough to know that there are FREE dating sites on the web, with way fewer scammers, and more actual girls. The fact that the site is taking off, however... yikes.

When they spam your email, then we shall riot.
And they will, trust me.

Insulted? No, not really. This is really pathetic, but not insulting.

If the service succeeds, however, I'll give up video games to distance myself from these people.

Never heard off this dating site until now, must only be advertised in America or something. Sounds quite funny really but beyond that i don't really have an opinion on it. I'll find the sites wikipedia page and see what it's about.

*checks wikipedia*

Ok...interesting. It seems that male gamers pay $8.25, choose a game and a PlayDate, a female gamer, which is fair enough, although how on earth will they make a male/female 1:1 ratio?.

Although what smells iffy is that apparantly, according to wikipedia, a play date costs 400 credits, these credits are directly money convertable, as $8.25 is equivalent to 500 credits. So when the customer uses the service, 40% goes towards the female "gamer" and the remaining 60% to the website. In essense, the female "gamer" is paid $3.30 per play date- which explains how they might make the 1:1 ratio, and also suggests that this is not really a dating site.

Wouldn't say I'm offended.

I mean, the service is up and running and working. Which means that there seemed to be enough of a market to at least try it. I think there is a ring of truth to the service in allowing some guys to talk to girls on their own terms- games. Not all gamers, but there are a lot of gamers I know (M&F) that seem completely inept at talking to the opposite sex or maintaining a substantial conversation.

The way I see it is that its pretty much the same thing as Phone Sex or Dating Chat phone numbers that have been around for a long time. Never been offended by it, though. Seems more like an extension of that service to an untapped corner.

Exactly. It's basically paying someone to be your friend for a predetermined amount of time during a predetermined activity. I don't know if I'd call that "insulting" so much as "depressing" or "soul-crushing."

as a gamer who was accused of being a rapist just because im a gamer. yes i am offended. it says to me "no, youre not allowed to go out with someone on regular terms, you have to pay someone to go out with you and you dont even meet them in person."

i know dating is prostitution, but still. id like to experience it once without having to pay some website first

I don't feel offended by it as it's just pathetic. However the whole concept does have an unhealthy view of women.

It's a bad image for gaming there has to be someone out there who's thinking, "Hey! If they're paying girls to play with them online that can count as a form of prostitution!" Don't think there isn't ONE human being out there who isn't thinking like that.

Yes, I'm rather insulted by this because it gives more reasons for people to not talk face-to-face.

I don't find it insulting, I find it hilarious :p You know how it is - if you think about it, someone out will definitely there will have a fetish for it. But still, like mentioned before, it's like phone sex: we rarely know anyone personally who use them, but with the high number of phone sex ads, a lot of people are definitely using the service. Same goes for GameCrush. Heck some of you guys may not admit it outright or don't show it, but I'd bet you're all excited when there's a girl in your multiplayer lobby. :p

Firstly, I think it's fantastically hilarious, in fact this is a layer cake of hilarity built on a simple formula. Vagina + games = profit!
I find that the formula is simpler than that: vagina + X = profit

Maybe we should look at this the other way around. The gamer niche is getting large enough to be noticed by the sleazy underside of the internet.
These are the guys that add the X to the formula so to speak, they jump on anything popular.
I hate to poke a hole in the optimistic undertone(?) of your observation, but Super Hornio Bros., World of Whorecraft, Suicide Girls, approx 8% of the library of Atari 2600 games, Playboy game girl spreads, Girls of Gaming websites, BMXXX, and half of all PC games from Japan pretty much prove we're already well and below the sleazy underside of the internet. This is just the latest, and likely silliest, of all.

Im not insulted so much as depressed that it seems the site is succesful. But if people are sad enough to pay girls to play games with them, thats their own business. I just hope that the stereotypes these kind of things create doesnt rub off on the rest of us.

Am I insulted by it? No. But its the same sense of not-being-insulted by some guy groveling in the mud for a used bra. It's just sorta pathetic and pointless. I mean why pay money to meet girl when you can do it for free. I mean I've never tried to ask a girl out but I not pathetic enough to pay some random chick just to pretend like I did.

The of course I don't really know that much about the site anyway. I saw a commerical for it on TV and I figured it was just some dating site focused on geeks/nerds, but from what I read off this forum, it's more like "Hire a GameHooker" as I think some put it. I wouldn't mind a dating site for geeks/nerds as it's not that far from this forum except it would be focused on flirting and hooking up rather than just discussing things.
But hireing game-prostitutes? Really? That's just sad. Just plain sad.

It's times like these that future of human culture is looking increasing dim. We really need to get away from this whole hedonistic/materialistic worldview we've been cultivating here in the West.
