I think they should make Desmond the main assassin and you go around the city he is in pulling off cool assassinations.

Isn't the point of Ezio in AC2 is so that Desmond can learn all his skills just like he did? Or the 'bleeding effect'?
Yeah, AC 2 is basically a training montage written by M. Night Shamalyan. Desmond learns the skills via genetically remembering Ezio's training in the ways of the Assassin.

The entire plot of AC 2 sets up Desmond as the actual protagonsit of the inevitable AC 3, which will hence most likely be set almost entirely in the present/near-future of Desmond and Lucy. I really hope Ubisoft doesn't chicken out and think people will only buy AC 3 for historical roof-dickery, because the promise of modern tech (guns, vehicles etc) mixed in with the skills and talents of an Assassin should make for awesome gun-fu fun.

Assassin's Creed 3 : Desmond has hacked into the Animus and is using Altair as his avatar to run around destroying Abstergo's servers and simultaneously revealing to the world their evil plans through the Internet.

I'd buy it.

Anyone else notice, thanks to Youtube comments, how insanely cool it is to play these [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBUiu_m70KQ&feature=related] two [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EaRHlo4B0Y&NR=1] songs at the exact same time? It actually sounds pretty neat, like it was... meant to be! :O

Anyway. They better go back in the Animus 2.0, because UbiMont makes the most beautiful historical sites, ever.

In response to the OP's question of whether it should be set in the future or the past, it would have to be set in the past since the future would simply make no sense narratively speaking.

In Assassin's Creed and AC2, Desmond has relived the genetic memories of his ancestors (which could be argued as taking the 'nature' side of the 'nature vs nurture' debate) in order to learn of their abilities and the secrets they knew (a bit shakey scientifically speaking, this is like saying that because my Dad is a fireman that I will have strength, agility and heroism in my genes, as a narrative device and an plot device in sci-fi it's perfectly fine though, did Mass Effect make any sense scientifically speaking?).

The idea of genetic memories can be explained when used in conjunction with an ancestor (although this has the cannonical issue that the ancestor must have had children in order to enable the protaganist to experience their life via genetics, am I the only one who can't picture Altair settling down with a nice lass to raise a family after everything that has happened?), for the genetic memory to occur in the future you would have to be observing events that happened to a descendant (I.E: someone who isn't even born yet and who takes their genes from you, the one observing the genetic memories).

At best this would be Desmond lying on a table for six hours and making shit up ('and then I lunged at a sexy cyborg ninja with a laser chainsaw') and at worst it could be seen as one of the worst sci-fi related pick-up lines I can think of ('hey baby, seeing as I have a descendant to make and we're gonna do it anyway...how about we get down and dirty?').

In short, it would always have to be set in the past due to simple fridge logic.

I say they should release a non-canon one in a steam punk aria(sp?). it would be fun to use some steam canons and stuff like that. but for a canon one I say when the gun was common place, but the sword had not completely faded out, which was about 100years after the Renaissance. a world war 2 one would be to out watched. they have guns, you have knives, that's the end of that. but hey, that's just my 0.0002 sense talking, and maybe if we put all our sense together, we'll get two or three sense!

I think when people say "will it be set in the future?" what they actually mean is "will it be set in Desmond's present, which is implied to be near-future as it is where they have future tech such as a magic chair that lets you see your ancestors via gene-magic". Not "will Desmond remember something that hasn't happened yet", which would be retarded.

Playing as Desmond could be quite fun, I'm not sure how they'd handle the outside of the animus world, many of the rules/justifications are imposed by the machine. I guess you could have someone else reviewing his memories or him getting amnesia and using the animus to remember.

I would like to see a western in America, where he has a long white coat, white hat and pistols. The cities could be New York (not as developed but still very large), some wild west frontiers and New Orleans (for the second act). He would still have to use the blades, as guns are very noisy. I can see him running along a rooftop as guards on the ground fire lever action rifles at him.

The Boxer Rebellion. The Templars can be the European side(s) and the Assassins the Chinese...or some cross between the two. Also I think a restriction on gun useage is a necessary contingent to keep the feel and ambience of of the games. An Assassin with an assault rife just seems wrong to me.

Ok, I havn't finished AssCreed 2 yet so I don't have the whole picture, so bare with me.

Why don't they just do both?

Desmond can now do everything his ancestors could presumabley, but we still want to get one of the major appeals of the first two games, historical accracy (well, it's an appeal for me anyway).

So why not jump between Desmond in the future and some chick or dude in th past, I'm guessing Victorian England or World War 1 or 2 (it'd be intresting to have this part set in Germany, the Nazi resistance or something).

From what I've got from the plot I guess Desmond doesn't need the animous any more right? Well then, when ever Desmond does to sleep the past sections start, when he wakes up it returns to present day.

Doesn't Lucy tell you flat out in the beginning of the game that the whole point of using the new Animus was to make Desmond an Assassin? Seeing there are already Assassin's Creeds 1 and 2, the third (and final) game has to take place with Desmond. The series is called a trilogy for a reason, unless they're going to pull a Douglas Adams on us.

I think Ubisoft Montreal should focus on making sure the inevitable sequel doesn't feel like as much of a giant chore as the first two, first of all.

Good thing your opinion is informed, or I might question it's validity.
I don't own the game because it's a rehash of the original. Do you see how that works?
I point to my original comment, which inferred that not having played the game your comments can hardly be considered a reasonable assessment of what the game offers.

Do you see how that works?

I personally found AC2 to be quite fresh, with several great improvements in the gameplay and storytelling compared to the original.
But if you want to stand by your "I haven't played it but still know everything about it" position, who am I to stop you?
Not owning the game doesn't mean I've never played it. I played the first, and found it mildly entertaining, if a bit repetitive. The sequel warranted my attention, but I wasn't impressed enough by the original to purchase it immediately, so I figured it'd be prudent to try the game out before dropping $60 on it.

I tried it. In about four hours of playtime, I found nothing but more of the same. Hence, I think it's a rehash, and therefore not worth purchasing.
Then stfu before commenting about weither there should be a sequel or not? Seeing as you don't enjoy playing it that much?
So if i said "I didn't like it much I wouldn't like a sequel" You would throw a fit? Seriously man, he has the right to say he didn't like it...

Oh. My. God.

On topic: I'd like to play as Desmond AND one(or more) of his ancestors. For example, Desmond would come to a point at which him and the other assassins didn't know how to progress. Desmond would hop into the Animus and play a few levels in order to help them in the present.

Also, the assassins seemed quite under equipped so playing as Desmond wouldn't include that much gunplay.

Voicing an unpopular opinion isn't trolling, my friend. For goodness sake, you'd think I was hurling personal insults your way or something.

Guys, this conversation has strayed too far away from the original topic. If you would like to continue it, please do it in PMs. Also, I fail to see how one could have four hours worth of playtime into a game which I think gives achievements at the end of each story mission, and yet still not have any achievements. If you would like to respond to that, please use a PM.
I don't have the achievements because I don't own the game, and probably never will. I played it with a friend who'd bought it. How else am I supposed to try the game before buying it? Is this really such a foreign concept?
Sorry for bring this guy back up but I'm surprised no one else noticed that this guy fails to grasp the idea of renting games seeing as that is such a foreign concept to you know try out a game for a couple of days instead of buying it.

Actually about half way through the game you go into a sequence out of the animus when Altair fallows a woman up a tower and sleeps with her.

Now that I'm all done with that back to topic.

I feel that the game should take place in Desmond's time. They can however keep the feel of the old style by instead of the game taking place in all these brand new high tech buildings instead the assassinations take place in older builds, ones that have been around for hundreds of years but instead of going through them in Desmond's time you instead go through them in an ancestor's time out of the animus like the sequence in AC2 where you are walking as Desmond then go into Altair's past. While in the ancestor's past you can find out secret passages and information about what's going to happen and what you'll need to do to stop. Then after the ancestor's sequences you assassinate someone or recover something from that building that you'll need removed for the end of the game.

Why would I pay seven or eight bucks to rent a game when I could just walk down the street and play it with a friend who already owns it outright? I'm not made of money here.

I agree with the people who say you should play as both Desmond and his ancestors. You can play in the modern day, which is the not-so-distant future so they could do something cool with that, and then Desmond could go into the animus to find something out and play as one of his ancestors. Actually, because its supposed to be a trilogy, they could do multiple ancestors for the final game, all with different abilities depending on how far you have progressed.

The one thing I"m confused about is what weapons you'll use in the modern day. In ACI you the assassins trying to storm abstergo using guns, so you know they're not obsolete in 2012, even though America seems fucked up. But at the beginning and end of ACII, all of the guards were using those weird bats for some reason instead of guns, so I don't know what Desmond will use.

And I do ope ACIII won't have retarded puzzles like the glyphs from the second game, which purported that every single famous person in history had the apple of eden, like George Washington (who wouldn't have been considered a boring asshole if he had a divine device).

And space spoons, stop complaining about the game. Its fine if you didn't like it, but there are other topics for that. This topic is speculation about the plot of the third game.

Assassins creed 2 was an amazing game for me and i have done research on the places that it may be these are places where desmond would learn new abilities through the animus so that he can save the world from total destruction:
Rumors- Ancient Egypt or Alexander the Great's rule, New World France such as Quebec and Montreal in 17-18 century, Modern Day America (no use of the animus), Inquisition of Spain, Crusades of Southern France, Revolutionary War of America, Ancient British fighting as in king Arthur

All these places have been referenced by clues and symbols in the game and may be hints to where it is going.

These are only rumors i have heard from research. I am an avid fan and hated the first game but loved the second game because it has all come together and is a much smoother game with less repetition. I cant wait for the next game i hope it takes place during revolutionary war in america, got fun possibilities. Also WWI would be pretty cool to but tough to play with swords and hidden blades during this period and i dont think this game will take a jump to guns anytime soon.
