Never.
Though it's just a matter of opinion. I don't care if people thinks it's sad that older people play games. I'm gonna play until I die.

NOW, depending on the type of game. I find it sad if anyone over the age of 8 plays a EC (Early Childhood) rated game. By choice of course.

Why would it become sad to be a certain age and love video games? I'm 25 now and I don't see myself slowing down anytime soon. The average age of video gamers is mid-30's, and that's obviously only going to go up with time.

That's like saying watching movies over the age of 40 is lame or something. It's just stupid.

After a while, one is supposed to grow up and stop fucking around and doing jack shit in the way of productivity. Eventually, I'll do it too. I'll stop caring about a pointless medium and start working on a job, and a family, and life. However, that day hasn't come yet, so here I sit, playing my games.

Your never to old to like videos games, though you are ALWAYS too old to be ADDICTED to them. If your just playing some COD in your spare time, or heck even D&D, power to ya dude. The only time it's wrong to play games is when its something that takes up a large portion or your time and life...unless your working for the Escapist or a video game company, then your livin the GAMER DREAM!

'When I was ten I read fairytale in secret, and would have been ashamed to have been caught, now I am fifty I read fairytale openly. When I became an adult I put away childish things, including the fear of appearing childish.' - CS Lewis

When you're young it's acceptable socially to like videogames, when you're an adult you should feel secure enough in yourself and your interests to not feel bad about playing and liking videogames.

Anyone who calls you a loser for liking videogames is likely someone whose view of maturity is not based on their own opinions or their own self-esteem, but on a societal construction they gleaned from outside sources.

Be comfortable in yourself.

Thats a ridiculous view to take, I'm married, have a full time job and have a kid on the way, yet i still take time to myself now and again to chill out and play something, this doesn't make me immature, this is just my way of relaxing, akin to watching tv or reading a book, both of which i do and neither of which comes with the ridiculous social stigma that gaming apparently has.

I agree with mattvwj. That's crazy talk! I'm married, have a full-time job and 3 kids ( all boys, 11, 6 & 1) yet I still play video games frequently! Maybe not as much as I'd like, of course, but enough to still call myself a gamer (and be knowledgeable enough to run a video game store). If you enjoy doing something enough, you'll do it for as long as you can as often as you can.

I'm 22, I've been playing video games since the days of mario on the nes. I play video games any time I can. My dad played them up until he died, and he was 41. All I have to say?
Fuck.
Those.
People.
Games have given me the best, and most aggravating, experiences of my life, and they're not gonna leave any time soon.

Its not dependent on age, at all. Sure, it can be "sad" if it becomes obsessive but that can happen at any age.

Never, of course never, what a silly question. At what age does spending your whole weekend on a CoD, WoW--or whatever your poison is--binge become sad? Now that's up for debate.
^^This. Just like any other hobby.

As long as you don't spend your whole weekend playing (at least on a regular basis. One weekend once in a while, like after a big release, or as the occasional planned break from RL, I don't see a problem with, as long as it's spaced out and doesn't cause problems with your RL) then there's nothing sad about it.

But, investing too much time in it is sad. Just like spending all your time investing in any one thing is.

ok here the answer

IT DOSNT EVER GET SAD TO ENJOY THIS MEDIUM

anyone who tells you otherwise is an insecure idiot who is only saying that to validate their own opionion/veiw of themsleves

seriously dont ever let it bother you, if you are comfortable enough with yourself and not insecure then it shouldnt screw them seriously
The topic is subjective and the OP was asking for opinions. Stating yours is fact comes across rather arrogant.
I thought that simply answering the question meant it was clearly the person's opinion on the question asked. No need to get your pants in a bunch. Plus, what's your opinion?

Personally, I think everyone needs to keep "playing" in some form or another throughout their lives. Whether that means video games, model building, D&D, fantasy sports leagues, and other hobbies it doesn't matter. Keeping yourself entertained helps you cope with the world around you.

when does liking movies become sad? god damn never, because age is irrelevant. dont let some victorian purists convince you there's an age limit to how long you can have fun with electronic media.

SNIP -- (or in the case of female gamers, play a lot less up to the point of no return).
What does that mean? I'm not trying to cause trouble, I just don't understand the statement.
Basically it means that most gamer girls tend to slow down on playing games until they stop altogether. It may be a generalization, but it's true in most cases.

Saying there's an age where it's sad to enjoy and play video games is like saying there's an age where you have to stop reading comics, or are too "mature" for cartoons. It's a myth propagated by those who haven't yet reached full mental maturity, yet like to pretend they have by shunning things our culture have branded as "for kidz. The "Z" is appropriate, as something made for kids can still be enjoyable."
