So Avatar is doing quite well in theatres. Also this is the second movie that has grossed over a billion dollars for James Cameron, how many directors can say that?

Personally, it comes as no suprise. In fact It wouldn't if it got to over 2 billion. I've see the movie, though not in 3d. And it's a lot like Titanic, meaning there's something for everyone, and it's all done better than Titanic.

I was pleasently surprised that this movie is actually BETTER than the previews. Usually movies are the same, or sometimes worse. Better is very rare.

What's funny is that it passed Transformers:Revenge of the fallen as the highest grossing movie of the year, before 2010, in 13 days.

So it is a surprise to you?

Nah, not that big of a surprise. It's plot may not be eloquent, but it does the job. And of course, there's the sheer beauty of the film's environment. It's the kind of movie you have to see for the visuals, i suppose.

Well, several of my relatives have come back raving about it (especially in 3D), so I'm not terribly surprised.

I am not suprised after having seen the movie. When I had only seen the previews I would not have expected such things.

I'm surprised, but not that surprised. I figured it would recoup it's investment, which was huge, and make a tidy profit. A billion, though? I didn't see that.

I think the more appropriate title for Avatar would be Titanic 2 The James Cameron Cash In.

Good advertising, good timing (still in cinemas age of the Nerd), low age rating, excellent director. This film would gross millions even if it was bad, and by all accounts it isn't.

When you find something that works, you make tons of money.

I guess I mean in all honesty if we could make fucking billions upon billions of dollars I think we would be all over it in a heart beat.

The only thing that surprised me about this film is that it beat Transformers 2 in less than 2 weeks. I personally loved the film, the story is original and well done. The characters are realistic and act on human emotions with human motivation. The visuals for the film are unmatched by any film I've seen to date. The only problems I've heard about the movie is that it is stunningly similar to "Pocahontas", while I see how this is possible I don't fully agree.

Considering that for the past year it's been hailed as the cinematic second coming of Christ, No, I am not surprised.

In saying that, it is an excellent movie, especially in 3D, if you ignore some of the more stupid plot points (I'm looking at you Unobtainium >_> )

I was surprised. I remember hearing about this thing about a year ago and I thought it sounded like a tacky sci-fi/action flick trying to mask its flaws with a CGI budget that would make some third world country cry in shame. I thought it would bomb horrendously at the box office (ala Heaven's Gate).

Dead wrong with the financial prediction, but I still think it's a tacky sci-fi/action flick trying to mask its flaws with a ton of CGI.
