You couldn't upgrade enough to make it worthwhile, trust me.

I agree it has the potential to succeed but it's likely it will fail.

"Hey I got this great new console"
"Does it have COD"
"Nope"
"Nope.avi"

Also, another thing, people like to play with their friends, that's how the 360 took off as it already had an install base. If people wanted functionality and graphics they'd all play on PC but they don't. They want simplicity and to play with their friends, the 360 provided that while the PS3 had few users for years relative to the xbox. To get into the market MS had to bludgeon their way in and their first console made them a $4,000,000,000 loss, Ouya can't afford that.
Lol, I'd forgotten about that video! And as sad as the point is, it's so true it hurts.

I meant to mention this before but it does have a Tegra3 [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBl-goBrWno&feature=relmfu] quad core processor, I was more worried about the 1GB RAM and 8GB flash storage which I'm pretty sure can both be upgraded easily enough. It also has WiFi, Bluetooth and USB 2.0 so it could connect to the internet so, as long as multiplayer games are made (which I can't see why they wouldn't) playing with your friends wouldn't be a problem and you can get multiple controllers to play on the same system too. Also they're hoping to get Minecraft on it! Which I know is a novelty but I still consider it a bonus.

But you are right, an immediate take-off is highly unlikely and unless A LOT of people support it, it could very well just die out but I'd rather donate and have it fail than indirectly be the cause of its downfall. Nothing you've said has been wrong and I won't be very surprised if it fails but I will definitely be disappointed.

So.. what exactly is the purpose of this console? To play free Android games? Is the selection of free mobile/tablet games so amazing to justify a whole new console?

Pre-emptive fanboy rant incoming:
This console is meant to introduce a new type of gaming to the table, one where people can actually try games before they buy, play more games like TF2 that are completely free and have upgrades to buy and even provide gamers with the ability to make their own games to sell. It simply uses the Android system to make those games, which I'm not sure how easy it is to use. But this also means that Android games out now are already playable, it's just that you do have to pay for most of them upfront so they may not be made directly available through the system.

I dunno, go look at the Kickstarter [http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ouya/ouya-a-new-kind-of-video-game-console].

I can't help it, to me Ouya sounds like the console equivalent of a Flash gaming site. I don't particularly care about it, I don't plan on buying it and I don't see it having a bright future aside from a small niche. I understand why people are interested and excited, but I just can't drum up the same level of hype in myself. It just sounds like it'll end up a cesspool of bad F2P crap...

From what I have read... you are most likely spot-on. It is for people who like playing Angry Birds and Run Dragon, Run! on their phones and tablets. The thing is: If they can afford something like that, then why buy this?

It will turn out just like the Jaguar/3DO did, except worse as those had 1 or 2 desirable games at the time.
That's part of what they're wanting to change. They want to lure a lot of those good, but small devs that only make mobile games, onto a nice, shiny console, so they can really cut loose and build the big, massive FPS or RPG they always wanted. It's a gamble, yes, but competition is good, and I hope this thing does just well enough to shake up the industry.

Then it all depends on the Pricing point. How much are the games going to sell for? How much is the console itself? What are the Specs? Will it run in 480, 720, or 1080? Will it draw the likes of Epic Games and its Infinity Blade series as well?

So far, we only have a few words of the creators and little to absolutely no footage of the actual console or such. This also could just turn out to be another "Phantom" console that had great ideas that never came into light.
The console will cost $100. Specs, I don't know, but you can see in the video, they say it themselves, they have a working prototype, and are using the Nvidia Integra3 chipset, which is pretty powerful for a tablet.

Game prices will be up to the dev, as anyone who buys a console will also get the toolset to make their own games, but the only requirement to get into the Ouya store is that some of the game must be free, either via demo, or a f2p game with in-game purchases.

Wait, 100 USD? Well that DOES sound interesting. Now, the question is: Will it be Quality made or cheaply "YOBO" made.

For those who don't know: Yobo are incredibly cheap consoles that play old games like the NES/SNES/Genesis and look like they were made in a kindergarten class.
I can't say. I think one of the guys working on it, is also the guy who invented the $100 laptop that was given out overseas. They also have the guy who invented the Kindle working on it.

so many people are really taking that free to play far to serious.

The site explains that means at least a free demo. If you look it that way all xbla games are free to play since every one of them has a free trail(as has the indie games since those have a timed trail).

This thing will come crashing down in big flames due to two things.

1) The creators hyping something to hell and back while they have nothing more then an idea.
B) A lot of people that back it up are expecting far to much from the system.

It's $100 as you know and here are the specs right off the Kickstarter:
Specifications:
-Tegra3 quad-core processor
-1GB RAM
-8GB of internal flash storage
-HDMI connection to the TV, with support for up to 1080p HD
-WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
-Bluetooth LE 4.0
-USB 2.0 (one)
-Wireless controller with standard controls (two analog sticks, d-pad, eight action buttons, a system button), a touchpad
-Android 4.0
They also had a link to what the Tegra3 [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBl-goBrWno&feature=relmfu] can do and their video showed that some of those games are already on the OUYA system.

To those saying this will fail because there's already a cheap and easy to get into indie market for the PC, the point of this console is to be able to program games for a console so people can play games on their TV with a controller. I know you can do that with programs and HDMI cables on your PC but some people don't know that, don't have that or just don't care.

For those who are still sketchy from the final outcome of the funding, it's kinda gloomy.

The amount of pledgers and backers per day are in a rapid desent.

Trending towards $19 million is "kinda gloomy"? I'd be thrilled, myself. In any case, even if everybody stopped pledging today, they've already made five times as much as they were asking for.

I read somewhere that these Kickstarter things typically bring in most of their money during the first few days, and again during the last few days; business usually dies down in the middle. They'll probably get a boost when they come up with some stretch goals, too. I wouldn't worry about it.

This sounds like a really neat console and all, but could they seriously not have come up with a better name than Booyah- I'm sorry, I mean Ouya?
