This sounds like a really neat console and all, but could they seriously not have come up with a better name than Booyah- I'm sorry, I mean Ouya?
Sure, it's kind of goofy, but I think it grows on you. And hey, surely it's not quite as embarrassing as the "Wii U."

I really think this is either a scam or will be a BIG failure. To mass market a whole new console and turn a profit you'll need tens of millions, not just five. And really, we haven't seen a damn prototype of the thing yet, hell in the videos you can clearly see they're using a PS3 controller instead of the Ouya controller. We haven't seen the thing and people already want to buy it, we also don't know what games are confirmed and we have nothing to tell if the things from the Kickstarter video are actually legit or just really good photoshop jobs.

So yes, I'm cautious, and I really think that this might be the thing that topples the whole Kickstarter thing. 5 million might go down the drain, and if that happens then shit will fly. I must admit, the concept sounds alright. But really, think about what types of Android games would really need a controller, they're all crappy versions or copies of games we can easily get on existing consoles. The other games such as Angry Birds and Cut the Rope are more suited for travel, not a home console.

So personally, until I hear the news "Ouya is a financial success, gamers everywhere happy with their purchase" or something like that, I won't be putting any money into the project.

I know this is a little off-topic but it's something that's always bugged me.

"Deep down, you know your best gaming memories happened in the living room."

I have owned consoles and they were never in the living room. I know numerous people who have and do currently own consoles... not one of them has them in the living room. You can't exactly spend much time gaming if you have family when your consoles are there, I mean, they'll probably wanna watch TV. The living room is for FAMILY entertainment and games often aren't that.

I know a lot of people MUST game in their living rooms or this wouldn't be so widespread. It wouldn't have been Microsoft's excuse for trying to stop Alan Wake getting a PC release but I've never gotten it. The only games I can see working from the living room are party games and besides, my bed is much comfier than my couch. :D
In the forgotten times before the internet, before PCs in every home, many houses had only 1 TV - in the living room, where everyone could use it.
It may seem unimaginable but that's the truth.

Everyone who started gaming with the NES or earlier, most likely has some "living room memories".

I don't really know how to feel about Ouya. It looks a little bit sketchy . Besides, can it work with a non-HD, kinescope TV? I mean, at least after using some kind of an adapter? Old TV's still are popular in some countries, even if they aren't being sold no more. But I guess since you can use a PS3 with such a TV, you can also use an Ouya with it. I think so, at least.
On a side note: I don't know much about adapters, TV's and HDMI, so if there is no thing like an adapter that allows a HDMI cable to be connected with a non-HDMI TV, please do not point out this mistake for the next 3 pages just because you wanted to yell at someone. Thank you.

Aye, I suppose it just seems strange to me. Even when we had a Master System (we were too hipster for a NES :p) it was in another room, on a different, much cheaper TV. I suppose me and my friends have just always been kind of lucky to be able to have a game system to ourselves.

I really really really want the Ouya to succeed, but I'm aware that there's a lot of ways it could fail. Might end up being a mostly-overlooked niche product like OpenPandora. If they can even make it and distribute it.

i like the idea of it, and i hope it is successful, but in NEEDS a killer ap of some kind, a 'Halo' if you will, something people buy that console for, and that people won't shut up about because its 'that awesome'.

The thing that's attracting me to it is:
a. They aren't gonna void my warranty if I root it
b. They want hardware hackers to make/modify their controls
c. It's an open system (in theory)

It's a pity that the android platform for gaming is a complete pile of arse at the moment. The raw power behind PC gaming and even the comparative power in the console market means that it'll start better than the PSPGo, but not a lot better.
The Tegra 3 is pretty beefy. It's more powerful than the CPU/GPU in the Wii, which has done it's own share of good looking graphics.

The big problem for it isn't going to be specs, but the fact that I doubt the iPad/Smartphone gaming market can carry a console, and the big devs aren't going to touch this thing with a ten foot pole.

Competition with what the Android? The I phone? To my knowledge it only plays games like that.
well according to this quote i think it will be more then just smartphone and tablet games

"NVIDIA is also helping us maximize the performance of our Tegra 3 chips -- they?ll work even better than the demos you see online. We?ll be able to support some intense games"

It sounds wonderful, perhaps too good to be true, in fact.

This sums it up [http://penny-arcade.com/report/editorial-article/the-reality-of-the-ouya-console-doesnt-match-the-hype-why-you-should-be-ske] way better than I could.
