I might buy one of these from Steam, but not both.
What one do you guys think and if you feel like it, tell why.

Keeping in mind both of these
1 - For Sandbox games I JUST finished downloading Saints Row 2 (From Steam)
2 - For "realism" FPS type games, I only recently finished my 1st play through of Modern Warfare 2.

Pretty invalid contribution seeing as how I've played neither, but one of my friends says that Bad Company 2 is a very, very good game.
I've also heard that Just Cause 2 gets pretty repetitive after a while.

But, as I said, none of this comes from personal experience.

I haven't played Bad Company 2.

However, I have played Just Cause 2. And it was a turd.

So my vote goes to BC2 by default.

Both are really good games, but I would say Just Cause if you want hours of single player. Bad Company if you want hours of multiplayer.

Single or Multiplayer?

For single player, stay the hell away from BC2 imo, it's got one of the worst and most uninteresting story lines I've seen in a game (there are worse of course, but I usually don't get to actually play them as I find out they're crap beforehand). The gameplay isn't terribly interesting either, the usual with the only new thing being breakable scenery, which, while an interesting concept, is not enough to pull it out of the gutter. For multiplayer it may be different, but I'm really not too impressed by it, definitely nowhere near as good as MW2 so I'd say stick with MW2 on the Multiplayer FPS department.

As for JC2... Don't know, didn't play it. It does look like enough fun, especially compared to BC2. If you haven't played Prototype yet however, I can guarantee it as the similar thing that feels really, really awesome (personally I hate the shit out of excessive/horror gore, mutated monsters and the like, but the gameplay was just so awesome I enjoyed it nevertheless and played it for a while even past the point where I finished the storyline)

Has to have single player value, but MP is alright too, although my internet connection has been playing up the past few days and really slow, to slow to play TF2 really.

As I said above then, I'd stay away from BC2 in that case... the story is just disgustingly un-compelling. I don't mean in a way of "oh what a stupid/cliche/overused plot/plot-twist/story", I mean, I played it and didn't for a single moment feel amazed about the story or the missions I was on and the pacing in missions was very slow, leaving me with a feeling that I wasn't really doing much. The gameplay also didn't offer anything new or awesome so I couldn't just focus on that instead to keep me interested either.

It depends. If you enjoy multiplayer, Bad Company 2 is a great game. However, if you're a sandbox person, and when I say sandbox, I mean the non-realistic Saints Row 2 goofy type of sandbox game, then Just Cause 2 will bring lots of fun.

You've given us no indication to what type of game you'd like better. We're not mind readers.

This is like someone asking if he should buy Zelda or Portal.
Fair point, but... I guess I didn't go into what I do and don't like coz I don't really mind as long as the game is good. But ok let's see....

Oblivion
Metro 2033
I did like both Modern Warfare games
Last GTA game I liked much was GTA3 (4 was alright... but just "alright" in my opinion)
I did NOT like prototype
ummm... Mass Effect
liked Monster Hunter Tri
Mario Galaxy!
.... I could go on all night though lol

Odd comparison, seeing as one is a single-player game and the other is a multi-player oriented game. Well, the first question is going to be, whether you're a single-player person or multi-player, because that's going to be the main factor to your decision. The other is whether you can put up with the differences that Bad Company 2 has from Modern Warfare 2.

I would say Bad Company 2, but that's just me.

I would say BC2 because I have had a lot of fun with it. I wasn't expecting anything from the sp campaign except for an added bonus to a solid multyplayer game.

I noticed BF2 or any of the other battlefield games were on your short list so I don't know if that type of large-map team-based game appeals to you.

Also having a shitty internet connection would suck for BC2 because the MP has been laggy lately on the PC.

I have no idea about Just Cause 2 exept what I have heard from other people, and, like other posters above I heard it gets old fast. But I am sure you would get more fun out of the SP campaign than in BC2.

I haven't played Just Cause 2...

But BFBC2 (for PC) has proved poor enough that I'd support JC2 simply on principle.

There are a number of bugs and the net-code is HORRIBLE so there's lag everywhere. Since release, the developers have:
a) made some DLC for the console;
b) made a patch (for console only);
c) made an expansion with new game modes etc - for the console; and
d) started work on the next purchased expansion pack (for everybody).

We just recently received the patch for PC (months after console) and it didn't do half what the devs promised it would and they haven't fixed a number of bugs that they said were high priority.

A while back, my clan challenged another clan to a game and completely stomped all over them. This was a bad decision... because one of the clan members is an EA mod on the BFBC2 forums. Since that point:
a) we've had 3 recruitment threads locked (for 'violations' that are all in that mod's clan thread as well);
b) we've had 4 members banned from the forums (for challenging the mods on locking only our threads); and
c) because those members were banned from the forums, and everything's connected to your EA account - they have lost access to all their EA games as well.

In no way can I EVER see myself buying another EA or DICE game, and I will actively advise other people to avoid them.
