From Reddit.com:
As most of you know, EA recently announced an exclusive DLC for preordering BF3. If you don't purchase the pre-order or limited edition version of BF3, you will have to pay extra for the Karkand expansion pack. The only thing not included in the Karkand Expansion pack is the Guns and ammunition, which will create an unfair advantage people who pre-order. As well, charging people extra to play maps available on day one. This was a decision made by EA, and not DICE. DICE and all of us need your help to get EA to wake up and change their decision. The Hive Mind of Reddit has a GREAT influence over the internet, and a lot of the media as well. Whether the rest of the world knows or not. Please remember to be POLITE in these emails. A bunch of spamming telling them what dumb asses they are probably wont help much.
This thread points out that a boycott called by sarcastic gamer against BFBC1, that eventually caused EA to change their mind.

I figured there should be a post containing all this information for easier access to the Reddit community. Post any results/ information below. If ANYBODY gets a reply from EA, let us know what was said.
Edit: I think many people are missing the point. The point is that we don't want paid DLC that is going to split the community into groups of who does or does not have that DLC. You obviously can't join a server if its running a map you don't have. Bad Company 2 gave all its users the DLC for free. Now, I can see EAs reasoning about it from a console stand point (So that they still make a little money off of used games), but there is absolutely no reason for this on the PC. Obviously, you can't buy used PC games. EA, if you won't do this for everyone at LEAST do it for the PC community.
Edit: Rock, Paper, Shotgun has noticed

I actually don't have a problem with this. When you pre-order a game you often get special things that other don't get. A couple nice items, maybe some experience points, a free upgrade to the Limited Edition, it's not a big deal. In fact, it's good. Developers need to make up for the cost of production, so paying for your game in advance helps them. It's fair for them to reward people for pre-ordering

As for Day One DLC's? What would you prefer, the DA:Origins DLC where you could only get the items if and only if you pre-ordered, with no option to buy them separately? And as for Day One DLC's themselves, I have no problem with them. You're buying the core game, and if you don't think the core game is enough for you to pay for it, that's your agenda, you don't have to make a big deal of it

You don't intrinsically own all the content relating to a game that's out at the time of release just because you buy the core game, you own what you pay for, and if a developer decides to release extra content for more money on the release date, well good for them.

Seriously, stop whining

Do you have any idea what these new weapons do or is everyone just assuming they'll give an advantage?

This being the internet I'm tempted to go with the latter.

Your heart is in the right place, but you haven't been on the internet long enough to think saying that will matter.

Also, welcome to the escapist!

I was thinking this was going to blame DICE, who had no part in this.

I agree with you, actually. Go back to the Halo 2 model. Pay for the DLC, or wait a month. Then it's free. No guns, or anything. Just maps.

Not to sidetrack, but is dark red with bright blue hair even a legal color for an avatar? If not, I would be FAR more worried about that sort of thing.

EDIT: It's not.

The only DLC I don't like the is the guns/ammo/suppressor DLC. Because that is the "pre-order exclusive" DLC, that you can NEVER get, in ANY OTHER WAY, aside from the pre-order. And from all that I've heard, this stuff will provide an actual advantage, and not simply be some aesthetic skin model.

Bahaha. This OP. This. I wouldn't worry so much about protesting when you're probably going to get your account banned soon enough for hacking the console anyway.

I've been on the internet long enough to know that it'll matter about as much as the OP (and it was a nice little stress reliever, I get pissed off once in a while when people complain about Day One DLC's)

And thanks for the welcome ^^

This. How does anyone know these guns give an advantage? Have you played the game yet? If so let me know, I'd love to play it ahead of time with all the balancing done and polished.

I'm all for trying to tell a company something, but jumping to conclusions only makes you look REALLY juvenile.

To give an example: I played BFBC2 and didn't even notice people had extra preorder content. Why? Because any problems relating to it were fixed almost immediately.

Seriously everyone. Chill out and make sure your argument is correct before organizing something as drastic as a boycott.

I'm confused, what does his avatar colors have to do with anything?

Choice where other people do not have a choice = advantage.

It's sooooo not a big deal. BF3 isn't the first game to do it, and the advantage the players won't gain isn't game breaking and won't last for long.

Grow up.

Avatar colors like that are not available unless you've hacked the console to do it. XBLA runs a zero tolerance policy on this sort of thing. Hack your console, no matter the reason and your account is banned the moment they catch wind of it. Broadcasting it with your avatar like that is just ASKING for trouble.

Not always. If the guns are on par or worse than the starting weapons, any advantage is negligible after leveling a couple times.
