A boycott won't do shit, I really do mean this. Tons of folks boycotted Modern Warfare 2 since there weren't any options for dedicated server hosting. Still, everyone shamefully locked themselves away in their rooms, staring into their monitor screens, enjoying the bane of their dignity.

EA is an unstoppable monster at best when it comes to these particular decisions. They don't care entirely about what you think or want as a single person, but as how many people in the majority that are willing to fetch their wallets at the first sign of opportunity. This is what's new, and it might just stick around forever. I speak of DLC packages of course. Ever since microtransaction systems became popular as well as successful back many years ago, publishers have been dipping into the money hole ever since.

Just buy the damn game, enjoy it, and pray that this easy-scheme dies down soon.
*Points to EA/DICE backing down in the face of a Bad Company boycott. Also re-implementing dedicated servers is a lot more of a hassle than just making what was once exclusive content unlockable via leveling.

Giving players extra choice for pre-ordering = advantage. How much of an advantage we don't know but I don't like the sound of some people starting off with a semi-automatic shotgun that's meant to be unlockable at higher levels. Furthermore they get exclusive armour piercing rounds AND the exclusive T88 LMG I remember with fondness from BFBC2? It's not the best thing for a multiplayer-centric game to do in terms of pleasing fans of the series. Also they get the ONLY flash suppressor? I want a flash suppressor!

Also last I saw part of the boycott refers to boycotting the PRE-ORDER of the game, i.e. people are to cancel their pre-orders.

I'll still get the game, I'll probably pre-order too but not until this fuss dies down and I can see an outcome of the boycott. (So basically I won't pre-order till we either win or lose)

The maps piss me off. They're know people will pay extra for it because Karkand is the best fucking multiplayer map ever. Screw you EA, this kind of stuff should be covered in your project $10. What happened to that EA? Not work out for ya?

I keep reading (in different forums and on Reddit) that people are saying that this forces people to pay more.

...It doesn't. The "limited edition" is automatically given for pre-ordering.

You ARE NOT choosing between paying $50 for the (non-existent) non-limited edition and $60 for the limited edition. You do NOT have to pay more for the PWP. (Discounting anyone who waits many months past release for a sale on the game.)

You do, however, have to choose between pre-ordering for both the "Back to Karkand" map pack and the PWP versus purchasing after the game is released in which case you'd have to buy the BtK map pack and live without the 3 exclusive components of the PWP (the DAO shotgun itself is just an "early" unlock, but the Flechette ammo, flash suppressor, and Type88 LMG ARE exclusive).

That being said, although I think this boycott is overblown, I've yet to pre-order the game and will probably wait till the last minute on it.

The easiest solution would be for the PWP to be 100% non-exclusive.

You have my auxiliary support.

Heres an idea..... GO PREORDER IT... it costs nothing extra to preorder plus it gives EA an idea to the popularity of the game and a guess as to what the dedicated server demands will be at launch. I don't really understand the problem here. Its 4 months away if you can't pay it off in 4 months I really dont think you have the disposable income to be gaming anyways. I see no problem with preorder bonuses.

Dude Microsoft is going to get you for using an Avatar editor...I'd change it if I were you.

OT: I honestly don't care, you should get a little extra for pre-ordering. It rewards your good fatih and it is a successful marketing ploy.

Do you have any idea what these new weapons do or is everyone just assuming they'll give an advantage?

This being the internet I'm tempted to go with the latter.
This. How does anyone know these guns give an advantage? Have you played the game yet? If so let me know, I'd love to play it ahead of time with all the balancing done and polished.
Choice where other people do not have a choice = advantage.
actually, they had the option to preorder + not taking advantage of an option to get ahead = losing out

I have no strong feelings one way or the other!

It's just a pre-order bonus. What's the big deal?

You just can't pre-order it? It doesn't cost anymore than it normally does and if they do what they did with BFBC2 then all of the DLC will be free because of the pre-order. I honestly don't know what you are complaining about.

Christ, who cares.

Do you also realize boycotting BF3 would allow MW3 to win? ARE YOU CRAZY.
Because its only important that MW3 fail and its ok if a game that is just as bad takes its throne?

Not to sidetrack, but is dark red with bright blue hair even a legal color for an avatar? If not, I would be FAR more worried about that sort of thing.

EDIT: It's not.
How funny would it be if we reported him.
Hilarious. And I'm kind of an asshole. The only reason I haven't already is because I sold my xbox a month or so ago and no longer have access to my account.

The lulz demand it.
Well he could just have a picture of a hacked avatar...
One should not jump to conclusions.

Wasn't getting BF3 anyway. BFBC2 is fine enough with me.

Why do people care about exclusive content? Are you sad because you feel you're being left out because you're being smart with your money?

I have yet to see how anyone can assume a game will be good before it comes out simply because there's lots of hype. Did we learn no lesson from Duke?

Preordering a game is dumb anyway. I'm going to wait until it comes out, see if the preorder items give any kind of advantage, then maybe give a couple months for the price to be cut in half. If they provide some kind of demo that I really enjoy, I'll consider buying it full price. Not like I don't have anything to play right now.

There's a beta in September.
Cool. Hopefully it's not the kind that requires a pre-order to play.

"All right, sir, so you're interested in this Ford Alantra?"
"Yeah, I might be. Could we do a test drive, first?"
"Of course, sir! I'll just need you to sign here..."
"....These are the papers to BUY the car..."

Dice is the ones who are puting the guns into the game so they arent going to be over powered. everything in the game is going to be balanced if u people would actually take the time to read.

Uh, you know how many other games have pre-order DLC?
There'd be a boycott for almost every major release.

I believe I've seen a lot lately. Go google Pre-order DLC and see how many games pop up.

Battlefield 3, LA Noire, Mod Nation Racers, Forza 4, Infamous 2, Fallout: New Vegas. The list goes on and on. Some pre-order DLC's are exclusive to the pre-order and cannot be purchased. At least they give you the option here.

I see this as a pointless boycott.

I think it's a matter of sensitivity. Warlords torturing children in some far-off country is still a crime, and we acknowledge that, but it's kind of expected that we're up in arms when it's happening in our neighborhood. (simply: only for games we care somewhat passionately about)

Meh remember when they tried to boycott mw2, lol masive fail.
I blame the right-wing gunwankers who don't understand the concept of consistency. It's like everyone wants to boycott the game but then everyone turns right 'round and buys it anyway. Rinse and repeat.
