*Points to EA/DICE backing down in the face of a Bad Company boycott. Also re-implementing dedicated servers is a lot more of a hassle than just making what was once exclusive content unlockable via leveling.PlasmaFrog said:A boycott won't do shit, I really do mean this. Tons of folks boycotted Modern Warfare 2 since there weren't any options for dedicated server hosting. Still, everyone shamefully locked themselves away in their rooms, staring into their monitor screens, enjoying the bane of their dignity.
EA is an unstoppable monster at best when it comes to these particular decisions. They don't care entirely about what you think or want as a single person, but as how many people in the majority that are willing to fetch their wallets at the first sign of opportunity. This is what's new, and it might just stick around forever. I speak of DLC packages of course. Ever since microtransaction systems became popular as well as successful back many years ago, publishers have been dipping into the money hole ever since.
Just buy the damn game, enjoy it, and pray that this easy-scheme dies down soon.
Giving players extra choice for pre-ordering = advantage. How much of an advantage we don't know but I don't like the sound of some people starting off with a semi-automatic shotgun that's meant to be unlockable at higher levels. Furthermore they get exclusive armour piercing rounds AND the exclusive T88 LMG I remember with fondness from BFBC2? It's not the best thing for a multiplayer-centric game to do in terms of pleasing fans of the series. Also they get the ONLY flash suppressor? I want a flash suppressor!
Also last I saw part of the boycott refers to boycotting the PRE-ORDER of the game, i.e. people are to cancel their pre-orders.
I'll still get the game, I'll probably pre-order too but not until this fuss dies down and I can see an outcome of the boycott. (So basically I won't pre-order till we either win or lose)
