Heres another "Whould you rather..." question. My friends and I came up with discussion a while ago. Would you rather work very hard and over a long period of time to become intelligent OR would you rather be born gifted were everything difficult comes to you naturally while at the same time alot of people are jealous and some even hate you for it?

Make your choice.

I would rather be Intelligent. I am gifted already and all it brought was procrastination and laziness.

it's a stupid poll. who says you can't get both? over time, those people gifted will sooner realize what they can do with their gifts. if you just 'become' intelligent it just means you read what others told you and you're no wiser than whoever is making whatever you read. you have to be gifted to understand and makes others understand, and you have to be gifted to seek knowledge beyond what others have written down.

as for 'talent': talent doesn't exist, there is only passion and skill.

As an offical gifted person (I swear), I must say the being gifted is better.
You still need to work hard, and put effort, just slighy else. and think of the bragging rights!

Perhaps the OP should define 'Intelligence' and 'Gifted' seeing as nobody can seem to agree on what they are.

If by intelligence you mean they are a Grade A student all the way then I am inclined to disagree, memorising information through standardised testing is not a measure of intelligence. For example: A girl I knew back in school who was a grade A student once claimed to have drunk alcohol of a percentage of 80%, We asked her what the drink was and she said "I had 4 vodka shots of 20% alcohol each". Is that what intelligence is?

I do not see 'Intelligent' and being 'Gifted' as being linked except circumstantially. Someone with a natural talent for the Violin is gifted but it has nothing to do with their intelligence for example.

Nice?

But?
For me its intelligence, since, me and my constant thirst for knowledge and new info, I find it more rewarding to answer the question of other who have asked them, with pride, since the long hours of the discovery channel.

If you define intelligence as the ability to analyse information, wheras gifted would mean a sort of luck/natural talent for intelligence, then I'd take intelligence. Let me quote Nietzsche here:

"What doesn't destroy me, makes me stronger."

Gifted is a stupid term. All children are gifted these days, even if the gift happens to be a dense skull that cuts off blood supply to their higher brain functions. Each one of them a precious little snowflake, who need to be nurtured and encouraged, so they can all grow to their full potential, despite most of them being without prospects since self-service petrol stations became the norm.

One way or another, it comes down to genetics. You have the smrt gene or you don't, you've got the awesome body gene or you've got the midget gene, you have genes which make you a superior specimen able to survive in harsher climates or you've got the ginger gene. Can't change your genes, son. What you then do with those genes is entirely up to you.

I like being fairly intelligent, it gives me a chance to insult 'gifted' people with wit...unfortunately that wit has escaped me at this moment...anyone seen it?

I heard from a friend that people that didnt become interested in art/drawing before they turned 8 will probably draw like a 7 year old when they start and improve in it slower.
So Im not sure if something like talented or gifted really is true. Its all about wanting, passion, determination. Mostly. There's lots of reason why a person would be better at certain things, I myself draw a whooole freaking lot, and actually I can call myself good at it, but I did start drawing when I was 2 years old, so if the thing I wrote in the top of this post is true I might be good becuse I got into it at early age. Also, I didnt make any research myself, but mom told me that people with ADD(which I got, look it up if you dont know what it is) can be more creative than people without it, so that maby is another thing that helped me get this good.
Even though I really SUCK at math becuse of it.

Back to the subject, I would rather be gifted, if theres something like it, becuse Im a lazy person and I like starting off with a kind of "Oh, I might be able to learn this good, yaycake" feeling when I study or try something new in general.

Intelligence. Through diligence you can become talented at something, but you cannot become intelligent.
Talent is something you are born with.
Intelligence however is something time can bestow you. I like to use this analogy of the hard drive versus RAM. If you're intelligent you are more RAM oriented. However if you're intelligent you could be full of RAM or Hard drive space, if you spend enough time doing/memorizing something you'll get it eventually ( Writing onto a harddrive ). However to be naturally gifted/intelligent you will grasp things really really quickly. ( RAM )

I was born intelligent, and while everything does come naturally, no one hates me because of it. Smart people who get shit from their contemporaries aren't "Gifted," they're just dicks.

That being said, teh only way you can become intelligent without being born that way is by being exposed to a lot of stimuli that provokes critical thinking during your very early development, when neural pathways are formed.

Conveniently, this is also the time you are most susceptible to being brainwashed into a crazy man-eating zombie. I'm thinking army of genius clone zombies, w00t?
