I wanna know everybody's top 5 bands of all time and their top band of the year. Why? Because I'm bored and nosy. Deal with it.
What about you, Bored And Nosy, what are your favorite acts?

'kay, I've kind of sworn off favorites on principal, but I'll do my best.

The Mars Volta
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Tool
The Smashing Pumpkins
The Pixies

...now give me four 'the' points, please.

Personally I would argue that "punk" is not a genre. But I digress.
Top 5 bands?

Joint first - Green Day, Rise Against, System of a Down
4th - Bon Jovi
5th - MCR

Band of the year? as the only one of the above to release a record, Green Day win by default I guess...

please don't kick me
Falcon Kick!

Don't really listen to music, but:

1. Animal Collective
2. Radiohead
3. Anamanaguchi
4. The Who
5. Explosions in the Sky

Mostly listen to soundtracks. Stupid, I know.

I'm stuck between rock and metal,
On one hand there's Bumblefoot, Led Zeppelin and AC/DC, and on the other there's Buckethead, Freak Kitchen and Megadeth. Tough choice.

The problem with this poll is the fact that there is no "best music genre"...we could go to a different forum that thinks R&B is the best. Or another forum that loves Country music...

This is more of a "What kind of music does The Escapist forum like?"

Why did pop disappear from the (results) list after i voted for alternative?

I dont really know if what i like constitutes as alternative, but i like a bit of everything, as long as it diverges from the standard a bit, and has its own style and originality. Fav artists include Alanis Morissette, Coldplay, Mika, The Killers, and lately I'm beginning to really like Kings of Leon and Regina Spektor. That sort of things.

1. Rise Against
Other than that, I don't really listen to any other bands, just a bunch of songs, don't care about the band. Punk all the way.

I despise how metal is winning, but it's your opinion I guess...

You know that emo, alternative, punk and metal are all rock sub genres right?

And I don't like restricting myself to genres, I like good music, if that's an answer enough ^^

Well, mine included there's now two votes for emo and though I love it in all it's many wonderful incarnations, I'm willing to agree it's not really a wide enough genre to get it's own place on this poll. The original 80's stuff could be thrown under the Punk banner (and I know a few of you will be sticking your fingers in your ears here and going "nah nah nah can't hear you" but y'all need to listen to some Rites of Spring and shut up) and anything from the 90's or 00's waves could be covered by Indie or Rock.

And if emo is too narrow a genre, Rock by your definition would be too wide of one. You can't throw bands like Taking Back Sunday, The Arcade Fire, Rancid and Nightwish together and say they all play basically the same thing.

Oh, and I guess a top five for me would be
1. Jimmy Eat World
2. Brand New
3. Angels and Airwaves
4. Kill Hannah
5. Biffy Clyro
