MUse are really good... but I'd vote for Blur/Gorillaz if they were up there...

how can you have Artic Monkeys on that list rather then Blur? Seriously :/

And when did Queen kick off? As I'd put them above all of the above.

Radiohead, because the influence they had on music was immense, their evolution of sound from album to album was huge. One could say the purpose of music is to evoke emotions, and Radiohead evokes emotion, not usually the ones you want, alienation, melancholy, tense paranoia; cold, hypnotizing, sprawling detachment is common. Radiohead gets in those weird crevasses and pulls it out; in that way they succeed far more than many bands do in understanding the connection between sound and emotion. Each album also seems to strike different facets of sound and meaning while staying utterly unique to Radiohead.

Having said that, I probably don't listen to them as much as the other bands, not because they're bad, it's because it's potent music and I usually don't feel like connecting with melancholy and tense paranoia on a daily bases, but they are the most talented on the list in my opinion.

I also can't argue with Iron Maiden, they're damn good.

Do bands that played after 1980 count? Or did they have to start after? I don't care. PINK FLOYD!

What kind of blasphemous...

The Clash, of course.

2nd would have to be U2, but I laugh at the fact that some people voted Arctic Monkeys over The Clash. I guess i you haven't listened to them or you don't like Punk Rock then thats fine...

But Joe Strummer man, Joe Strummer!

Oh shit wait, wrong Iron Maiden. Yeah fair enough they should be on here, but the OP did explain why.

As much as I love Iron Maiden, weren't they formed in 1975? Plus, you got to admit they don't have the widespread appeal of the others in the list. These bands on the list sort of sum up the British sound, which is exclusive to these isles, whereas you could say Iron Maiden go hand in hand with the 70's rockers of America.

My vote goes to Muse. Brilliant live band and pretty inventive guitar and bass. Pretty cool they're beating all but Other atm.

MIA from this list are Maiden, The Cure, Suede, Manic Street Preachers and Stereophonics. Oh and the Prodigy.
I love The Cure, but I wouldn't have put them on this list. Same for Sterophonics.

As for the Prodigy, I'm assuming this guy thinks if there is no guitar then it is no band.

If I'm wrong he should correct me though. Plus there are about a dozen more bands that were missing, but he can't get them all.

I agree that you cannot simply pick one. I'd have to say either Bloc Party, Arctic Monkeys, Glasvegas, White Lies, The Subways, Foals, Franz Ferdinand or Muse.

Queen is the greatest english rock band of all time tbh and they got some great songs out in the 80's like Crazy little thing called love, Another one bites the dust, Radio Ga Ga to name a few that i like.
