because they are evil incarnate?

seriously that dichotomy of storybook good and evil works on such a base level, every mythology i can think of incorporates it in some way.

and another good one is Ozymandias from Watchmen who through his attempts at uniting/conquering/saving the world becomes the story's villain.

Hmm probably because to be evil I only have to do one act of evil and evil for lfe. To be good I always have to be good. Its far more fun to be evil
