Gotta say VII, then V because it was incredibly long and incredibly hard, with one of the best last places ever. Then VIII, then X, then VI.

I say
-FF1( best difficulty curve)
-FF6(Best story ever!)
-FF7(Best Magic system and good story)
-FF8(I think it had the best characters and one of the darkest story arcs.)
-FF9(Vivi and the best side quests ever.)
-FF10(Cool summons and interesting story terrible characters save Auron)
This is my opinion.

I like FF XII the best, and I know I'm going to get tons of people calling me an idiot for it, but it's true. I am not a fan of turn based RPGs, so it was honestly the first Final Fantasy I liked enough to be able to sit through to the end.

VIII is probably my favorite FF game of all time. Everything about the game was innovative. It's just a shame that they had to turn back the clock with IX.

I'm also a big fan of XII. Great seamless battle system. Great art direction. My only complaint is that the story was rather dull.

Hold your head high, man. XII is a great game.

XII is probably my 3rd favorite Final Fantasy behind VIII and VI.

There is no competition that FFX is best. FF VIII is second and FF VII is a close third.

Personally I always preffered 8 and 9.
I loved the stories and the combat systems, 8 had some shoddy character animation but it was still nice to look at. 7 takes a close third in my book, it was a great game but I just have different tastes to most people.

I also hated 12 and even 10 to a certain degree. Don't know why exactly, I just couldnt love them as much as I did the PS1 games.

The list is a bit odd not inculding the Nes and Snes era games which were some of the best.

1: FF6- Great storyline, intresting characters, a classic.
2: FF9- A charming fun throw back to the old school games.
3: FF4- Incredible story, it just gets a littl confuseing which is why it got knocked down from 2 to 3 on my list.

For me it has to be FFIX (The very best!), Then VII, then VI, and finally Tactics.

For the battle system, FFX.
For the story and setting, FFVII.
For the music FFVI.

That is all.

Ugh, seeing people praise XII is actually hurting me physically. If you've played VI, VII, VIII, or even Tactics, you would see what utter trash XII was. Good graphics do not a good game make. Plus, Vaan was the most uninteresting main character FF has had in my opinion. When I was younger, I would say "Wow! I want to be just like Cloud! Wow! Squall is so cool!" When I played XII, the whole way through I just thought to myself "Shut up, Vaan. Shut UP, VAAN!" And I don't want to rant here, but the combat system for XII made me want to take a nap. Wait 10 seconds....hit.....wait 10 seconds.....miss....why isn't Balthier casting cure?!....wait 10 seconds..... Ugh, I hated that game with a passion.

On a side note, I'm replaying VI, VII, and VIII on my psp right now, and I'm loving it!

Side side note: I loved Dissidia! It's an excellent game in its own way.
