Poll: Best Final Fantasy Game?

I know that this has been pretty long and repeatedly debated. I have never jumped into the Final Fantasy pool, and was wanted to know the opinion of others before I start. I'd rather avoid the terrible ones and focus on the best, even on par games. And, more so, I wanted to get a more updated view on the games. I know that opinions tend to change over time. Thanks in advanced for your opinions. And try to keep it civil.

Edit: Forgot to mention, Please explain why you think it's the best game in the series.

OT: i voted for 6 . If you are one of those gamers that can look past graphics , then i would say play 6 . If you are not , god help you .

Other: I like and respect the rest of the main series, but my favorite is FF XII.

I also love FF Tactics and Vagrant Story. The core team behind the Ivalice Alliance makes games that suit my interests. What else can I say?

Why start the poll at the first Final Fantasy? I doubt everyone has played that. The poll should have started at like FF6 and gone upward. On topic though, from the Final Fantasy games I've played:

FF7>FF6>FF9>FF10>FF13>FF12>FF13-2

My personal choice for best goes to FF9.

I loved the characters, the themes, and all the events that take place in the game. Although I had played previous FF games through several times and found them to be thoroughly enjoyable, FF9 was the first that really impressed me.

I guess because honestly, I wasn't expecting much. At first I found the look of the game to be offputting, and the characters to be annoying. But this all changed a lot as the game progressed (Shame that it starts off rather slow though.) and everything afterwards far exceeded my expectations, I grew to absolutely LOVE the game. Instead of thinking "Well that was pretty good." like the previous FF titles I played, I thought "That was fucking awesome!" with FF9. I still have my copy I bought the day it came out too!

I liked 9 the most, it was light hearted and the protagonist was much more likable than 8 or 10. The game just didn't take itself seriously, so it was a breath of fresh air from the usual.

As far as good games in the usual, I would recommend 10, it's not the best but it seems like the best for a person who's never played the series.

It's an even split between IV and IX for me. IV has a great cast of characters that work well off each other, specifically the Kain/Cecil/Rosa triangle. Also it is chock full of spoony bard action.

IX, more than any other ff game, has personality. The setting, the art design, the music, the everything. That game is what final fantasy is all about and it ties with IV for my favorite.

Graphics are not a priority for me at all. I like a nice looking game as much as any other person, but it's not a "completely must have, or the game suxorz!!!".

I'll likely be in the minority. But I loved FF X. It was my first FF game which likely helps. Then my second would be IX. I wish I could have beaten it, but the beginning of the last disc was messed up unfortunately. I haven't played IV or VI but I just couldn't care about anyone in VII or VIII or XII, and I outright hated most of the group in XIII. Still dream of choking Hope slowly to death.

Tactics. Followed by VI and IV, with VI having an incredibly narrow lead. Then... hmm. VII, IX, XII, and the rest are pretty meh.

It's a really close call between Final Fantasy VII and Crisis Core... Crisis Core has one of the best scores I know but I think in the end vote would go for VII for more content and more interesting side-characters. Crisis Core left all but the main characters pretty damn vague.

I'm actually surprised at the overwhelming love for IX, a few years ago, this was not the case, many people just shrugged and went
"IX, I never played that one".
I guess the re-release got it a little more love.

Final Fantasy X is probably the best since story, soundtrack fighting and levelsystem are quite good each is not the best in the Final Fantasy series, but it's good in everything

the order would be 10>6>8>13-2>9>13>10-2>7>11>12>5>3>4>2>1

XII. There, I said it. I put over 1500 hours in that game (longest on any game) and I consider it time well spent. It's a FF the way I want it to be. Big open world, no faffing about with stats, decent combat and upgrade systems, good story and music, and the leading man, who else?

FF9 is easily the best in my opinion. It brought back open world gameplay in a 3d format! I always hated how restricted you were in newer final fantasy games.
