So in the lead-up to Skyrim, what do you guys think has led the pack thus far?

I go with Portal 2--intelligent humour, ingenious puzzles and a deep co-op experience--at least in my mind--are likely to render this the unsurpassable classic of 2011. And I'm not even a huge Half-Life fan.

Probably BF3. I love the endless destruction (online) and dogfights :D
Probably going to get flamed for this or something.
I think once I play Skyrim I'll change my mind. I can't wait for that game.

I would probably go with Witcher 2 or Dark souls. Gonna buy BF3 And Skyrym together in 2 weeks and yeah I think they will change it :)

Currently going with Batman Arkham City, although I haven't finished it yet.

Interesting story, amazing roster of villains, a interesting open world that feels real and alive, and you're FUCKING BATMAN. What more could you possibly ask for?

Batman; Arkham City
Just finished the game an hour ago and it was really awesome. Felt shorter than Arkham Asylum, but it was still a great experience and a really well made game.
I was expecting a larger game world however. Going from one end to another in Arkham City is done in just a few minutes... but at least all the areas are somewhat unique.

I'm a bit sad that Scarecrow didn't make an appearence. The end of Asylum hinted strongly towards it iirc. :<

Xenoblade. Easily. It's been a long time since there's been a game I've been excited to come home and play for hours on end. Even up to the 130 hour mark.

As for the others. Hmmmm. Ocarina of Time 3DS was great but I don't think it counts due to it being a remake.

Arkham City I was so excited for I was disappointed when it only took 12 hours to do everything in the game aside from the Riddler Trophies (screw you reviewers who said it was a 40 hour long game)

Radiant Historia was a great game not many played. I really enjoyed that too.

Now that I think about it. This year was kinda slow for games. Good thing we have the next month or two for some good ones.

Sonic Generations. LOL jokes, Portal 2, Deus Ex: HR, are the best of the year. however best to come for me personally is Saint's Row.

CoDs going to be the better game shooter this season well campaign wise anyway. Flames initiated.

Portal 2, because it's the only game I've played that's been released this year :p
But it was very good...

The Witcher 2
Wasn't perfect, but for me there was absolutely literarily nothing wrong with it.

I'm giving my vote to Alice: Madness Returns.
Sure, it had its flaws, but I can't think of much wrong with the gameplay at all. Plus I found the story interesting, but it's not hard to make me find a story interesting.

It is a very tight competition between Portal 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Arkham City for me personally.

Probably Dark Souls. I guessing until Skyrim comes out, at which point, there will be some much happiness.

Dragon Age 2 still gets my personal GOTY.

Arkham City seems like the most logical contender for overall GOTY though given that it's incredibly popular, mufti-platform and almost universally liked. I won't personally have a go at that game until it's released on Nov 15th on PC though.

I may not like COD but I can agree campaign wise. Crysis 2 was horribly dumbed down and had terrible design flaws that made the campaign a total joke as proved by Yahtzee being able to stealth his way through the campaign which is pathetically easy then there's the horrible plot for that as well. Bulletstorm might be able to compete but that also had dumb design choices as well. Homefront was apparently mediocre all around and I don't think I've seen a reviewer say the single player was more than ok. I played both MW1&2's campaigns and while I don't like the games at all at least the campaigns were somewhat fun so I guess MW3 should have an easy job here. Though I wonder if I'm missing any other FPS's that came out with a campaign. Oh wait serious sam 3 is coming out too so sales wise no competition there but campaign wise who knows.

OT: I know this is going to sound absolutely absurd but I'm going to say the Breath of Death VII/Cthulhu Saves the World pack on Steam. I'm not even kidding here. The only runner up for me would be Dark Souls but the BODVII/CSTW pack is the most fun I've had in a while. There are a few other games I wanted to buy but didn't have the time or money for them like Bastion, Outland and other stuff.
