For me a tie between Poral 2 and Dragon Age 2. I imagine, though, that Dark Souls and Skyrim will supplant those in the near future.

Awww, I cant pick four. I picked deus ex since its just an extremely bad ass game, and the main character has f'ing built in sunglasses!

The three other ones I would of picked were:
Portal 2
Little Big Planet 2
and LA Noire

I loved Deus Ex: Human Revolution, even more than Portal 2 which I was convinced that I thought that would be the best game of the year. This has been a damn good year as far as games are concerned.

As far as pure fun goes? I'd probably say Space Marine. It's really, really fun.
Wow, wasn't expecting the most repetitive and lackluster game that simply had exploding bodies everywhere to ever be considered "fun".
I think it is awesome that you have come to this thread with absolutely ZERO input on the actual subject matter, rather just trying to gauge reactions out of people to incite a flame war? That bored? Take a walk, bro.

I'm going to have to vote for a very unpopular choice. Dragon Age 2. Sure it may have been dumbed down from Origins, but Bioware was trying something new. I appreciate what they tried given their obvious constraints, but I really thought it to be a very well written game. Each character was written for and voiced exceptionally, and the story over all... well I just have to say I loved it. Sure it's something that's been done before, same as a majority of the plot twists but so had DA:O. Both are great games in their own right with DA:O being the obvious superior, DA2 should not be so harshly judged in my opinion. It was an absolute blast to play through.
I preferred Space Marine to Dragon Age 2, and I really tried to like Dragon Age 2 but it was a chore and throughout the entirety of the game the only reason to continue was merely to get to the end, not because I enjoyed it.

It was an abomination of gaming because it was warped in every way.

I came to post and then saw a Space Marine supporting post which AMAZED me because of the terrible average quality of that game.
And we have a continuation of a pure lack of input on the subject matter, rather an attempt to incite a flame war.

Dear, dear lovely internet person. This thread is about voting for an opinion not flaming others for theirs. Try someone else, I am untouchable. My vote is mine, my opinion is mine. Why are you afraid to state yours instead of making crappy attempts to insult others for theirs? ;)
My opinion is already all across this forum, I have not hid it, Pokemon Red is still the best game even if it was made many years ago, and because of its sheer awesomeness, it wins every time.

*Cough*

I don't think the games were good enough yet to even warrant a "best of" as that'd be an insult since most of it was crap and that which wasn't had so much wrong with it that even if it was a great game it was still not really that good compared to what else could have come out.
So you came to a 'Best of 2011' thread to poke and prod at people when you have absolutely nothing relevant to add because your...YOUR... favorite game came out in 1998.

/slow clap

Portal 2 which you reference with your slow-cap comment was okay but it was so short that calling it a game is really like calling a cherry food.

No, I think I came because I could.

Also I didn't like Pokemon Red, so you missed my sarcasm.

Why is Dead Space 2 on the list?
Because it's fucking excellent. If the original was "Alien", this is "Aliens". Hopefully there will be something better than "Alien 3", though...

OT:
Human Revolution. I had finished the original Deus Ex a few days before playing Human Revolution and seeing how the world got to where it was was pretty astounding. That, and killing people with dumpsters, hacking doors, and slipping through entire levels unnoticed was pretty fucking cool.

You must have played a different game also called Space Marine.

But, on topic, I can't decide between Space Marine and Deus Ex:HR, but since HR ended in such a piss poor way, has DLC in a couple of weeks that I doubt is free, and doesn't have a fun multiplayer with jetpacks, I'm going to have to give it to Space Marine.

So far, I am going to have to go with Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The gameplay is awesome, the mechanics seem streamlined, and so far, the plot is quite interesting. Then again, I heard the ending(s) weren't so great, but I will have to be the judge of that when I get there.

Any game that can not survive on its own singleplayer is thus not worthy of being called good and never should have had a multiplayer or been made to be honest.

There was no sense of accomplishment and a mere cheesy explanation and continuation.

Portal 2 as it was the only I bothered to buy and the only one I've played.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution, I loved it. In all honesty I would probably pick Portal 2 considering how much I loved the first one but I still haven't even installed it, and I've had it since the Steam Summer Camp thing. *hides face in shame*

Did I say it would survive on just multiplayer? When did I say that? I said one of its features that set it aside from Deus Ex is the fact that it has a multiplayer. That statement seems pretty factual, my opinion comes in saying that that is a perk.. which I don't see how you can argue. Oh no, they gave us more game? Yes, damn those developers for giving us more game to play.

Space Marine is like Vanquish, a moderate length game that is fun to play through but, unlike Vanquish, it also added a nice multiplayer for you pass the time with and have some extra fun. I'd say the game can stand on its single player fine (considering that the story isn't all that bad), especially considering that Relic is going to be giving us more stuff to do for free in a couple of weeks, the multiplayer is an added spice to turn a 10-15 hour game (depending on difficulty) into a several hundred hour game.

Disgaea 4. The story is outrageous and the amount of content it has is mind boggling.

That hurts. Well, you are in for a treat. Even the dub is so good that I went with that over the sub and I never do that with dual-audio.

The focus on putting multiplayer in a game that barely survived on its own campaign meant that they could have devoted resources to the singleplayer to make it truly worthy of being an actual Warhammer game.

So yeah, the fact they diverted their resources and "gave you more game" is the worst thing they could have done.

Monday Night Combat was released on Steam in January. Since then, I've cared about very little else. My game of the year so far, as a result, is Monday Night Combat.

How did it barely survive on its campaign? Did the disc nearly catch fire while you played because you finished the campaign and fount it to short but then (and suddenly!) the multiplayer came in from the left with a firehose and doused your disc, saving it?

I don't know about you, but as per this topic, playing the campaign was fun, entertaining, and satisfying experience. The multiplayer is a nice addition but its presence doesn't subtract from what I thought was a complete gaming experience (and story) that I found fun. Length is irrelevant to the amount of fun I have (See: Portal), and just because the game is on the shorter end of the spectrum doesn't make it bad. But, in your point of view and this makes me think its pointless to say any more, it seems like you've pigeonholed any game with a multiplayer as not being as good as it could have been had it not had a multiplayer.
