KoRn. Slipknot and Disturbed second and third respectively.
I wouldn't necessarily call any of those bands metal.

Anyway, guess it's 'Tallica for me, they got me into metal music in the first place and although I like Megadeth more right now, they're probably my all-time favorites.
How do you mean?

They're all metal bands.

KoRn are nu-metal, Slipknot and Disturbed are Heavy Metal.

TSED,

Diablo Swing Orchestra are very good! I always forget they're metal, they aren't the first thing to come to mind when somebody says metal anyway. Has anybody heard of Panzerballet before?
I've never been so happy from some one undermining my point before. Kudos.

I've not, but I'm going to give them a listen. First things first though, I've got a dog who needs walking and a rent that needs paying.
lol sorry no undermining intended! I just forget that they are metal, I guess just because they aren't exactly what I would call brutal. Not that that means a thing, they are still f***ing awesome!

Panzerballet is "jazz metal". I thought it sounded weird when it was first described to me, like it shouldn't work but somehow it does. But then I like things like breakcore and Fantomas so my music taste is a bit strange!

[Edit] Also surprised nobodies mentioned Otep yet, although their 3rd album was weak Sevas Tra is great stuff! sure somebody is going to disagree with me though lol.

Children of Bodom, In Flames, Trivium.
I would like to take this opportunity and say that In Flames is PUNK. Not Metal, as the genre name metalcore would lead you to believe. the -core makes it punk.
Maybe some new In Flames, but if you listen to the older albums like Whoracle and Colony, you'll hear that they're melodeath.
Well it certainly goes without saying that In Flames sold out. And I for one don't like supporting a band that has sold out.

Er...ok so all the bands in the poll absolutely suck, except possibly for Slayer, but their material is so samey and boring that I can't deal with them for too long.

I can't believe that Metallica are actually popular in this day and age, what with their last 4 or so albums being absolutely terrible, ESPECIALLY St. Anger. You know, the album where they didn't let Kirk play any solos because they wanted to sell out that tiny little extra bit (and then when they let him play them again on his new album, he's forgotten how to and ends up churning out some god awful structureless mess for the entire album). Work it out, Metallica suck!

As I Lay Dying, Byzantine, Chimaira, DevilDriver, The Haunted, Human Abstract, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, Machine Head, Parkway Drive, Protest the Hero, SikTh and of course the mighty Unearth are all better than every band anyone on here has mentioned (especially Protest the Hero and Unearth).
YOU BEST BE TROLLIN'.

They haven't completely sold out, they're just going for a more soft approach. Just cause it's mainstream doesn't make it bad. They're still one of the leading bands in the melodeath genre, along with Dark Tranquillity and At The Gates. I still support them and believe that they will keep on making great music, as they always had.
